Anybody used the Treasury Direct service ? You can buy Bonds and other securities from the US goverment there. I've got some spare cash that I'm thinking of putting there but I was wondering if anybody had ever used it before I input all of my information on there.

I've had a TD account for a few years. I buy and redeem I bonds. It's easy to set up and use. It's linked to your bank account or money market account. They will send you a card that you need to decipher to gain access to your account. Looks like a pain in the a__. but it's really easy. It's for security. Just don't forget your security questions when you set it up. If you forget to answer them correctly, you have to call them to gain access to your account. Not a big deal, but sort of a pain..All in all very easy to use. Have really had no problems.

I used to buy a lot of bonds during the last couple of years. With the inverted yield curve, it was a far better deal than keeping a savings account especially when the interest is federal tax free. But I stopped using it during the last half of last year. First, the interest rates are not that good and I can get better returns in my ROTH IRA brokerage account. Second, the site has become a PIA to log on. Not only you can't type your password (you have to click a virtual keyboard whose layout changes all the time) but you have a log in matrix that you have to have with you to enter values from. A major PIA.

But once you are in, the site is very easy to use.

Yea, I wish all financial institutions used the virtual keyboard. Won't defeat keyloggers that do screen capture, but with the blurred out log-in details, it's totally affective.

Ive had an account since about 2002. I buy I bonds with spare cash.

Since I can buy bonds through payroll deduction at work, it reduces the need for TD for me. I still have and use the account though...

Yep, it's so effective that even I have stopped logging in.

Believe me, there are far easier ways for someone to steal your identity than breaking into your bank log on.
