93 Mercury Grand Marquis: It appears something may have broken on my shift linkage. My gear selector just moves about to freely on the column and the car will not go into gear, in fact it is stuck in gear right now as my wife had to turn off the car after something gave. I was not around when it happened. When I checked it the car started and I could get it in 1 forward gear but no reverse etc. Then after attempting to catch reverse I ciould not get any gear and had to turn off the car. Could not check things out as I work in my drive and we are having nasty winter weather. Anyone have ideas on common item to break on these autos that would prevent shifting? I heard they use a plastic grommet at the link.
