Transmission pan magnet

Thank you Gasbuggy - I took off my Volvo's splash plate yesterday and stuck this neo magnet (25 KG pull) on the outside! It's a strong magnet so I've put in right in the middle - so hopefully will do a good job to keep metal debris on the bottom of pan - till the next ATF drain and fill.

I've also come across this new pan - looks solid vs GM factory or even the dorman version - but it's aluminium, so if I were to upgrade to this pan, would need to glue some neo magnets inside it (or just place all neo magnets on top of the filter??

Any thoughts / suggestions concerning this 'designed for racing' alum pan?

Namo, I would assume that you should glue the magnet into the pan. I'm curious what ZZperformance suggests you do with this aluminum pan since GM specs using 2 magnets in all 4T65s now.

I found a discounted version on ebay (sold by the same factory ZZperformance) for $99 plus shipping plus import duty - all in all comes to GBP 130 - quite pricey, but I'd like to do my best to maintain the T6 tranny (Previous owner had the misfortune of rebuilding it at 75K miles).

As someone else mentioned to me - would not recommend glue magnets onto inside of alum pan - so think I'll resort to placing several smaller magnets onto the filter itself, and potentially on top of the plug magnet - once I receive the pan I'll see if that's possible.

I've read a lot about tranny 'longevity' and think heat is no. killer - and one of the best ways to reduce heat is to use alum pan with cooling fins - preferably deep version, but ZZ only makes this stock volume alum pan. (Deep pan won't fit onto my Volvo due to the tight space between it and the splash guard (plastic, but with big openings just at the tranny pan to aid ventilation I suppose).

Will try to post follow up when I install the pan (need to find a replacement gasket too...) - thinking of doing this in May (I know it's a long shot) when engine oil change is due - as I'll only need to jack up the car once for both jobs

Manufacturers already put magnets in the pan and they don't cause problems. Since the manufacturer has recommended putting one on the filter in a TSM, I highly doubt it poses a risk.

Designed for the job. As are the flat Gm magnets that come in GM transmissions.
