Gents, here is the story.....

Purchased suburban with 140,000 miles. 350 engine with R700 Transmission? Had some one change fluid and filter at 144,000. They told me everything looked fine.

Few weeks 148,000 miles on a cold day, wouldn't shift. Doesn't slip, but wouldn't shift up to second and 3rd.

Local shop looked at it and suggested remanufactured transmission at $1,500.

Friend suggested that if you disconnect the wire at the throttle body and pull on it full lentgh might loosen a sticky part in the modulator. He did this and it then shifted like new again for the next few days.

I thought the thing might be gummed up so so thought that SeaFoam Transmission Tuner would be a good idea. Put in a pint and ran it for about 100 miles. Shifting problems came back. But shifting seemed to get better when warmed up.

Changed the fluid and filter again yesterday. Found one small piece of metal on bottom of pan and the magnet with a lot of gray sludge but didn't seem real gritty. (Don't know for sure that prior filter changer cleaned the magnet) Tore the filter apart but didn't seem to be much collected by the filter. Fluid was quite dirty as to be expected from sea foam.

Took it for a test drive and didn't shift well but would shift on the way to Sears. Bought a tool there, started it up and shifted like new all the way home. Shifted well on way to Church this morning.

Any suggestion on what to expect or further things to do? Don't have a lot of trust in it right now.

"Phenoix(sp)Remanufactured Transmissions" type that into google most GM remans are around $650+shipping! I normaly do not share them with anyone due to their low cost(my little secret) but I hate to see someone pay more! I would not put them in the same class as Jasper but they do warranty their transmissions and they are all tested on a transmission dyno!

the throttle valve (it is what is at the other end of the TV cable) is sticking in it's bore in the valve body due to wear. you can either get the valve body replaced or have your current valve body reamed with a Sonnax reamer and have an oversized valve fitted.. I went through this when I got my 700R4 rebuilt 3 years ago (88 K2500, sunshell total failure).
it it doesn't shift, stomp on the gas and hold it 100% to the floor.. a shift will be forced at about 30 MPH, depending on your rear end gearing. pulling on the TV cable and letting it snap back can also help, but until you address what is actually wrong, it is only a temporary solution.

What did that cost compared to a remanufactured?

Then a full fluid and filter change. Maybe have it flushed after you do the filter to change all the fluid.
