I have a 07 Hyundai Tucson 86.7K miles on it. The transmission temperature sensor needs to be replaced according to the dealer. The check engine light came on and gave me a generic AT code. The price for the work is $510 total. From what I have seen from searches, this seems like a "normal" price. This is a first for me, so is this an appropriate price?

It's a dealer. Anything above an oil change will be $500.

Have you searched youtube for a possible video on its replacement? Might well save yourself $450 if you find that its a simple replacement. A lot of sensors are external and can be easily replaced. I replaced a engine coolant temp sensor that the dealer wanted $200 to do many years ago for $50 and less than 10 minutes and simple adjustable wrench.

You would need to know exactly where the temperature sensor is. I know on my 1995 Escort, it's mounted on the bottom of the valve body and very easy to get to once the pan is off. You can see it below near the bottom of the picture (ignore the red arrow; the temperature sensor I think has a green wire partially obstructing it):

From what I was told by the dealer, it is a 3 hour job, the sensor has to get replaced as well as the ATF. I plan on calling around, but in the past independent shops were the same and sometimes more than the dealer. Any one else in Cincinnati?

Hi, I realize that you posted this ages ago, but did you ever fix this sensor on your own? I just got quoted $1,435 to have this fixed. They said it would be that much b/c the whole transmission needs to be removed to get to the sensor. Is that correct or am I getting hosed? Thanks!
