What kind of aftermarket brand of fluid can I put in the transmission? Spec in owners manual calls for this snakeoil: "MOPAR ATF + 4 Automatic Transmission Fluid". Thank you, gents.

ATF+4 is Chrysler's spec. Many brands meet it.Go to Wal Mart and get Super Tech ATF+4.

Here's a list but some of these are no longer produced in the US (such as Mobil branded ATF+4).

Supertech has the lowest everyday price but sometimes Amazon will have something less expensive.

I bought a case of Havoline ATF+4 from Amazon for $4 / qt. which was less than Supertech. I wound up with 4 qts. left over that I have as a stash for next time. If I'd just bought 8 qts. of Supertech it would have minimized leftovers.

AAP had Castrol Transmax ATF+4 for $4 / qt. last month.

Any licensed ATF+4 on the list that nyogtha linked to is the same and will work fine.

Chrysler's ATF+4 licensing process is so silly and childish going WAY beyond the level they need to. It's not just a spec. Not only does Chrysler dictate the formula, but they also stipulate the suppliers of the ingredients. Therefore, all licensed ATF+4 is the same, whether you get it Walmart or the dealer.

The best ATF for transmissions that require ATF+4 isn't licensed at all! It would be Redline C+. Better than anything Chrysler will license, using a group V ester base oil, but Chrysler is jealous and won't license it because it doesn't use the required group III base stock from one of the approved vendors.

Whatever brand of ATF+4 you can get cheaply will do the job. IIRC, there's only 2 choices of base stock and 1 additive package that can be used and have it be an approved ATF+4, so they're all functionally the same.

Using Redline C+ in my super picky Chrysler Sebring pos that calls for +4. Car loves it shifts much better. Its been 10,000 miles on it so far.

Using Redline D6 in my 07 Prius. Car loves it. Pulls excellent used oil analysis over 85,000 miles since new.

Both 100% synthetic.

I highly recommend Redline for your transmission.
