trailer tire options?

Only getting 4,000 miles out of a set of tires suggests something is wrong with your trailer. Good luck.

I don't know. I'm buying a new trailer pretty soon, probably just the cheap stock tires on it too. They aren't a household brand like goodyear.

All depends on how much you use the trailer and at what speeds and how many lbs. If you don't use it much, or just around town, I'd stick with trailer tires because they can be much cheaper. On the other hand, if you tow 10K+ lbs. thousands of miles per year on interstates, consider LT tires.

I put michelin LTs (made in UK) on my triple axle last summer after some bad experiences with trailer tires on interstates. Have about 3K miles on them so far, and happy (knock on wood). But pricey.

I'd avoid ST tires like the plague. I had nothing but bad luck with them. The tires would simply fall apart. I had two 36' goosenecks with duel tandem axles. The brand new trailer had ST tires(235 80 16). The older trailer had LT tires(225 75 16), all different brands of unknown age. I never had one problem with the LT tires. Bought a spare. The spare was unused when the trailer was sold. I was replacing failed ST tires on a regular basis. Even new replacements would fall apart after a couple months. Both trailers were used in identical applications. I got out of the business before breaking down and replacing all eight tires to LT.

I have pulled a 5,500 pound travel trailer coast to coast right at the limit-65mph. That included summer heat.

No problems with properly cared for ST tires. The issue being is that no one "ever speeds" pulling a trailer-but I will be pulling at 65mph and get pass like I'm standing still by another trailer. Some ST tires can be "over inflated" for increased maximum speeds limits-but most are limited to 65mph. I believe excessive speed and under inflation are the primary cause of ST failures.
