It's a GL FWD with the 3.5l V6, a combination not available in the US. Color is Granite Blue. My first ever V6 and first ever slushbox. Always had 4 cylinders with manual transmissions. First tankful returned a rather excellent 8.8 l/100 Km or 32.1 MPG Imp or 26.8 MPG US in mixed driving. But it looks like the tank may have been overfilled by the dealer prior to delivery.

My car was built on July 14th at the Alabama plant just before the switch of prodution to the Kia plant in Georgia alongside the Sorento.

Hope I don't have any issues with the cartridge filter? Never changed any of those.

That would be remarkable fuel economy. I do love my 2008 GLS AWD 2.7L. I average 22-23mpg tank/tank. That's the best I can get.

Call me old-fashioned, but I really like how this car has a traditional, simple, and very usable instrument panel. Very easy to see, no extra blinking lights and crazy indicators to distract from driving day or night.

Excellent choice, congratulations!

Couldn't agree more!

Agreed.

Too bad there isn't a simple oil pressure gauge and a voltmeter. There's plenty of room.

What I like about the Santa Fe GL (GLS in the US) is that the base model had all what I wanted with few things missing and not deal brakers such as outside temp, onboard computer, flashers in the mirrors and heated seats, all standard in the Sorento.

And not pushing me into a higher priced model containing sunroof, leather, automatic climate control, power seats and the like. And youppi, no TPMS yet in Canada, a nuisance for us using another set of wheels and tires for winter. The real luxury now lies more with being able to operate all the features of your car without having to dig in a phone book thick owner's manual. Anybody taken a look at the dashboard and center console of an Acura of luxury car lately?

I like thoughtful details like the fold style rear headrests that can stay folded when nobody is sitting in the back seat for better visibility. Trunk in the trunk is neat as well. I love the XM radio and might renew after the 3 month trial is over if the price is good. Sound quality with XM is also notably better than FM.

$4500. off MSRP cash deal was icing on the cake.

The real test is coming in a few weeks as we are headed to our "Florida cabin". I looked at a way to remove the side rails on the roof but they look fixed in there with holes in the roof for bolts (I don't have the crossbars).

I also have ordered a set of 235/70-16 Continental Extreme Winter Contact winter tires that should be arriving in late october. Will use the 16" rims from my Sonata and plastic hubcaps.

Oh, and I waxed it yesterday!!!

Bonne route!

No TPMS, but I know Canadian Santa Fe's (up to 2009 at least) had nice expensive chipped/transponder ignition keys, where US models didn't. Different Federal mandates I guess. You'll love your Santy. Does your 2010 have the 6spd auto? How do you like it? Also, even the basic sound system is awesome in my opinion! It's waaaay better than the basic AM/FM/CD head unit in our 2008 Honda Odyssey.

We have the chipped keys now on all cars since last year IIRC.

The 3.5 comes only with the 6 speed auto. It's butter smooth if a bit slow to downshift. I've read reports on various forums of people having issues with it, hope they were fixed before mine was produced. The engine spins only 1750 RPM at 60 MPH.

If your 2.7 AWD has the 4 speed auto, it likely turns much higher at highway speed? The difference in fuel economy probably stems a lot from this new transmission making a bigger more sophisticated engine turn much lower most of the time.

Looking forward to the Florida trip next month. We'll be able to toss a couple bicycles in the back and go riding around.

Yep. My 2.7L/4spd will tach out at 3K as you approach 70mph. It's funny because at first I kept looking to make sure I actually had it in 4th. I don't notice it anymore. The positives of the 4spd are, I still get ~23mpg doing any around town driving, which is LOTS of hills and 30-45mph.
I mostly use it for my work commute wich is 40mi each way and almost entirely 65mph+, so ideally, I should have a 5th or 6th gear. Thing is, my 2008 has been so flawless so far up to 56Kmi on the ticker, that I'd had to get rid of her!

good luck on your santa fe my aunt has an 09 with 3.5 never an issues yet im ready to trade my 09 sonata in as well as i am just not happy with the car although the 2011 sonatas are a complete turnaround especially powertrain wise

If I had the cash to spend on a vehicle, and it brought a reasonable trade-in value, I'd trade in our 2009 Sonata in a flash. Problem for me is, after this Hyundai experience, buying another Hyundai would feel stupid.

YEAH IM NOT HAPPY WITH MINE AT ALL its a decent looking car and riding but the problem lies with the 2.4 engine and 5 speed have had clutch issues from day one and this car is so slow its not funny should have kept my grand am even with 130000 miles would blow the doors off this car never buy a hyundai again

I tried with 2 dealers here to get the ECU update you had with yours to help with the easy stalling with the clutch but to no avail. I wrote Hyundai Canada about it and they were no help either.

Otherwise, I really liked my Sonata. Kind of a korean Buick. Smooth and very good mileage.

Bear, what's the problem with yours?

YEAH THEY DID FLASH THE ECM WORKED GOOD FOR 2 WEEKS THAN BACK TO THE SAME [censored] AGAIN NICE CAR BUT THE POWERTRAIN SUCKS ENGINE IS GUTLESS

Did you not test drive it?
If you buy a gutless car, that is what you'll get.

New Hyundai/Kia are great vehicles.

My gutless Sportage is perfect for what I use it for. It does ask for more RPM than most other vehicles that I've driven. Learn to drive it and you won't have any problems.

No problem with the 2.4 engine in our 2009 Sonata. The transmission programming is rather poor but put the pedal far down and it moves quickly enough.

The biggest problem is the dreadful automatic transmission, which regularly flares and thunks the 2-3 shift. Dealer says all is normal.

Other problems include squeaking windshield, and clunking front right suspension. Depressing when all these symptoms appeared within the first 400 miles of its life.

I've written about them here before, will keep it short this time.
