Purchased new in 1986 Case/ IH 485, 3 cyl (German). presently less than 700 hrs. Was advised by Case folks to only use Case IH No.1 sae 30w oil and do not use a multi viscosity type. Tractor is seldom used during the winter. Ques..Considering todays advancement in oils would Shell Rotella 15w-40 or a syn oil be better? Tractor is used mostly pulling a large flail mower.
Thanx

Hi,
IH engines from Germany came from Neuss and were fitted in a variety of applications

Most were very tolerant of their lubricant and a good quality 15W-40 viscosity HDEO is a good choice Rotella, Delo and Delvac 1300 are all great products

There are still many good SAE30 HDEOs available but I think a 15W-40 HDEO is simply a better all round choice. There is little benefit of using a synthetic HDEO in your application
