Ok so I posted a question awhile ago and most people seemed to think it was a TPS problem. Sometimes when I am driving and accelerating from a dead stop and the vehicle shifts into 2nd gear the throttle goes dead and then after a few seconds its back to full power and the vehicle takes off. When it usually does this there is no lights coming on on the dash. Well Yesterday when driving around in all the rain we have had the vehicle did this a lot more often and when it did I was get a Traction Activated notice on the center gauge cluster. It felt the same as when it happens on dry pavement. So any suggestions? The vehicle is a 03 Yukon that is All Wheel drive with stabila trak. Thanks in advance!

I start thinking about the ABS sensors and rings with those symptoms. A bad sensor or loose/broken sensor wiring or a broken/bent toothed ring will fool the ABS/traction control into believing there is a loss of traction, and take appropriate measures. If there are no codes, get a scantool and pull up the individual wheel data and look for a frequency/speed that doesn't match the others.

Any ABS activation on normal stops?

That is interesting! And thanks for the post! I have not seen any signs of ABS activation on normal stops? And I have not felt anything. But I will look into this! Thanks again!

Thanks Bubba thats a good idea. MrCritical no it idles fine. What were you thinking?

Do you have the option to turn off the Traction Control? Probably not since it is full time AWD. Is this a drive by wire throttle or does it use throttle cables? Sounds like maybe a TPS problem or the ABS rings are bad or have dirt covering it.

I don't know... I wouldn't go replacing them without making sure they are bad, but at least check and see if they are dirty or something. A bad TPS sensor coupled with an automatic can make the car go crazy. It might be something like that. I am just throwing out some possible problems, but I wouldn't go replacing parts randomly, after spending $5,000 in parts you might finally fix the problem.

Seems like some of the Tahoe/Yukons had a throttle body problem and there may be an updated throttle body available.

The trac problem could indicate another problem altogether.

Yes I do have the option to turn the traction control off and I have tried this and when its off there has not been an issue. So now knowing this is there anything anybody can think of? Thanks this is really driving me crazy.

This sounds like a problem I went thru on my neighbors GM car After he spent big $$$$ a few times and it kept coming back within weeks. I would bet it has to do with wheel RPM sensors. GM has had many issues with this problem.

In most cases a sensor surface cleaning will fix it.

I would 1st clean the front wheel rpm sensors AND THE SURFACE where they get the readings from (may be rusty).

But look for obvious broken wires from the wheel speed sensors. When working on it.
