Hey all, this UOA was the factory fill w/795 miles from a new long block installed in my Tundra earlier this month. I thought I had read that TGMO had reduced the moly content, but at least this sample still had high levels which was surprising/nice to see.

Looks like a factory fill oil. Thinking Toy ships first oil change with the long block, just to ensure consistency in what dealers do in the field with this engine swap process.

70 ppm/1k 😲 (obviously break-in wear)
Maybe the Toyota oil was before the Moly reduction? That is a good chunk at 1k ppm of Moly. I think you already mentioned it but the replacement was from the recall?

That could be on the moly levels, these blocks shipped from the factory with oil so who knows when the oil was produced but I was happy to see it. This replacement was for the recall, and the old engine was running fine/hadn’t displayed any signs of issues beforehand. I debated back and forth on whether to hold off on getting the recall done but ended up deciding to just go for it and be done.

I'd put some 0w30/5w30 in those engines personally... every Tundra filters i open up are a glitter fest... that one from a 2024 excluded from the recall..

Edit: That being said, Lake Speed Jr. plan is sound. Establish a trend on 0w20, an then change to 0w30/5w30 of the same brand, do a couple of OCI with it and check if the wear is lower. I would'nt be surprised it would be but i'd like to be proven wrong. :)

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 replaced this FF. I’ll see how it trends but I was planning on 5k OCI’s with ESP. Then again the bug to try something else might get me at some point 😄

Yeah and just like Lake waste a quart as a flush.. 😃

Interesting! I never see any glitters in my Tundra filter.
See above post for a Tundra filter at it's 2nd oil change. The 1st one, as expected, was wayy worse then that. Early oil changes makes a lot of sense on those engines and time will tell if a 30wt oil will do sense also.

They do. It comes with oil. It's as close to a "plug and play" engine replacement as you can get. Also a good way to standardize a process for reimbursement, book time, and track defects by controlling variables.
