Unless the recalls are related to Kamikaze-like behaviour, I fail to see the relevance.

You seem to be missing the boat on the fact that I've condemned Ford for an engineering fault, rather than simply a mis-spec'd part. Something I consider much more grave.

Unlike the Toyota apologists and fanboys, when my favourite manufacturer screws-up, I WILL make it a point to voice my disappointment.

Here is a list of Ford recalls i am sure that all of them are not because others use there parts... Eighth recall of vehicles prone to catch fire when parked and unattended

For the eighth time in recent years, Ford Motor Co. is recalling millions of vehicles to fix a faulty cruise control switch that can overheat and start a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and unattended.

The latest in a series of too-little, too-late recalls affects 1.1 million Ford Windstar minivans, model years 1995 through 2003, that could have the problem as well as 3.4 million additional vehicles that have the switch, including Ford Excursions, Explorers and Rangers of various model years, going back as far as 1992.

The latest recall affects these models: Ford

Ford and federal regulators have known about the problem for years but have issued narrowly-focused recalls that have left thousands of consumers at risk. Ford has already recalled 12 million vehicles because of the fire hazard associated with the speed control system in the vehicles.

One Ford Windstar owner in Rosewood Heights, Illinois reported to ConsumerAffairs.Com that her 1996 minivan caught fire and is a total loss. "It was parked in my driveway beside my house. I was not home at the time of the fire and I had driven the vehicle earlier. When I returned home later in the afternoon all of the windows were black," she said.

“While the data show the majority of the vehicles being recalled do not pose a significant safety risk, we are recalling the vehicles to reassure customers and eliminate any future concerns,” Ford said in a statement.

As many as 1,643,432 Windstars were produced by Ford between 1995 and 2003. They and other vehicles in the latest recall were not not included in earlier massive Ford recalls of vehicles in danger of catching fire because of a faulty cruise control switch.

In 2008, the agency reported receiving 134 consumer complaints of engine compartment fires in the Windstar. The agency also reported that Ford has received 285 complaints of engine compartment fires in the Windstar. The automaker has also responded to 137 warranty claims after engine compartment fires in the minivan, according to the NHTSA Web site.

Homes burned down
NHTSA reported that two Windstar owners alleged vehicle fires spread to their homes causing structural damage.

According to the NHTSA Web site, 36 consumers claimed the Windstar fire occurred while the vehicle was parked. Another 72 consumers said the fire started while their Ford Windstar was running.

Cutting and pasteing about Ford recalls wont make the problems at Toyota dissappear.

What do Ford recalls have to do with this problem at Toyota? Why are you posting these in here?

The reason it to show that Ford...GM and Fiasler all have there problems...like i said some people out there just love what is going on with the Toyotas and say see i told you but American....where quality is job one....

To be fair, for years I have read about how "terrible" American vehicles are and how "perfect" Asian vehicles are and I very seldom heard anyone come to the defense of the domestic producers. Now the shoe is on the other foot, but people are saying: "Be fair now, everyone makes mistakes"

All the negative statements impacted the former Big 3 and allowed the Asian producers to make inroads in the American market. I am not saying that Ford, Chrysler, and GM didn't make some poor products or that they didn't earn some of the negative publicity, but the Asian companies were given high marks that they didn't always deserve.

Now we are beginning to see that the "invincibility" of Toyota, Honda, and Nissan was not objective, factual, assessment, but merely preference and subjective political-correctness.

"They (Japan) make small, fuel-efficient vehicles while the Big 3 make big, bloated, gas-hogs." NOT!

Gee, thanks, I never knew Ford had a recall ever until you cut and pasted it here in this Toyota recall thread....lol.

Ford recalls in a toyota thread, please. You people insist that foreign cars have zero problems so when they do you deny it and say "its a minor issue" imagine if GM had this problem. Some of you would be ready with torch in hand!

For once and all each brand of vehicles have had their problems. Nothing can be gained by raking all brands over the coals. There is not a perfect vehicle. I have owned both foreign and American vehicles and some were better than others. The current recall is not different than some we have had in the past. Please remember that some of our members may own one of the problem vehicles because they thought they were getting a great car for the money. Do not make matters worse for them by pointing out every flaw.

and some may have owned others that caught on fire and are no longer with us.....or rolloedover...take a look at some of the burnt vehicles on that site...

If that was the real reason please explain to me why you had to dig up just the Ford post.

I wish people would remember that before engaging in schadenfreude. Strong Toyota & Honda products force American manufacturers to try harder to compete; The "Buy American" sentiments for GM, Ford & Chrysler force Japanese manufacturers to employ American workers in factories located here. Those are both great things, as we (the consumer) end up with better products and well-paying jobs. Instead of all the tired bickering about these companies, we ought to be focusing on China...as the day is quickly approaching when they will be the 800lb automotive gorilla, able to keep both profits AND jobs overseas.

In there interim, I hope Toyota quickly fixes this problem, I hope Ford continues to crank out winners, I hope GM can repay their loans soon and I hope a miracle happens at Chrysler. In otherwords, I don't get my rocks off seeing any company that employs American workers fail...

I partially agree with your sentiments. The problem with that argument is that the Big 3 were providing better jobs for Americans and all the profits remained American. The foreign automakers didn't create any market, they simply took it away from the domestics. If all the imports stopped selling in the NA market GM, Ford and Chrysler could be doing all the production. My point is even these American made foreign cars are not the equivalent of the glory days of truely American made and owned car manufacturing.

It's analagous to the Big 3 going to Europe and taking over half the market that already existed. That would be good for the Big 3 and good for America, but it wouldn't be doing Europe a favor. Neither are the imports doing the US any favor.

I know a few people that work at toyota in Georgetwon KY and are doing very well with no Union....Look at the cash for clunkers.... most people used it to get Hondas...Toyotas and other as some say feeren cars...

Yeah but I know people working for another make very related to Toyota which I won't name who aren't doing so well. Bottom line nothing was gained economically. Imports are not doing us any favors. A lot of the quality difference was and still is just spin.

" Neither are the imports doing the US any favour."

On the contrary. They're doing millions of Americans a favour by building vehicles for them. Obviously, vehicles that North Americans appreciate and want. Otherwise, Asian vehicles wouldn't sell over here, right?

Oh, I forgot.... the quality part is just spin.....

Well that is another point all together. Consumers aren't doing American workers any favors either. Many of them would buy everything sourced from China just to save a penny or maybe at no savings at all, not to mention quality. Then they wonder why there are no jobs when they go job searching lol.

Let's be honest. The average Toyota or insert run-of-the-mill import buyer is only buying because they were told to buy them. That advice is suspect.

Careful, now. Don't talk too much sense in threads like this. People's heads might break if they have to think too much.

I have many clients who work at Toyota. I met with one tonight, and the word around the plant is that this is CTS's fault and they will be paying the cost of the recall

But someone posted CTS position saying it wasn't their fault. Probably CTS is partially to blame but we might not never know the whole story.

you are right about American workers... explain to me why UAW Ford workers at the truck plant just down the road from me all flock to Wal-Mart.... A non union place..... O I see do as I say not as I do.....Even the local Union hall goes there to purchase stuff...
