TOYOTA recalling 550,000 '21 - '24 HIGHLANDERs

The problem is what they are not recalling:
1. POS transmissions in Tacoma/4Runner.
2. V35 in Sequoia and certain Tundra's.
3. There are reports of failed head gaskets on 2.4T.
Ouch.

A friend of mine has a hybrid tundra… he loves it - said that the hybrid versions aren’t having the same problems as the NA? Maybe I’ll get lucky with the 2.4 as mine is the hybrid variant there too??

Oh Tundra hybrid has issues. But owners of those are double screwed. Because they can “safely “ pull to the side bcs. electric engine, they are not cover under NHTSA recall.

The full size pickup world is turning on its head when the RAM 1500 and Nissan Frontier are arguably the safest bet reliability wise……

I agree with your statement, but I was floored to see his post saying something negative about Toyota. He's usually on here kicking people in the groin for buying something other than a Toyota.
I've never, ever been loyal to any make, and certainly not Toyota. I push Toyota not out of loyalty but out of personally experiencing excellent reliability for the past 20 years. If I need a new car and Ford or GM make the best at that point in time, I will abandon Toyota in 1 millisecond. I think brand loyalty is stupid...the only loyalty we should have is to quality, and that is why today, I would only buy Toyota for Hybrids, SUVs, Sedans...but not their trucks.

Everyone has recalls. Toyota isn't immune to them.
Yes, but Toyota is expected to have the least problems, and lately their trucks and some engines, and transmissions seem to not be much better than Ford and GM, which is very, very bad. When I need the next new vehicle, I will dump Toyota ASAP for another brand if that brand is better. I am loyal only to quality, not brands.

So happy with wife's Highlander. Still on original brake pads at 83,000 miles. I could almost heat my entire home with the Ford recall notices that come every week in the mail.

Toyota only does recalls if NHTSA steps in. Just ask Tundra/ Sequoia owners with hybrid set up. If not safety issue, good luck.
And yes their pads tend to last long as focus was on longevity, not so much on braking.

I can say I drive an issued Explorer hybrid, it is almost dangerous to drive at slow speeds without riding the brake in a parking lot. Worst driving experience yet of 13 Fords owned or issued; however, It is as fast as the 3.5 Ecoboost F150 I put 183,000 trouble free miles of abuse on. I would not buy any car solely based on manufacturer. Unfortunately you have to dig deeper into the respective models.
