just purchased a 2011 tacoma with the 4.0 V6. although i d rather do the oil changes myself, i got the 5 yr oil change deal with the warranty, i know the techs at my local toyota so i know my truck will be serviced right when i bring it in for oil changes, maintenance etc. my question is, does the oil they use differ dealer to dealer?

Probably since more than likely they are going to service your car with bulk oil. Dealers are free to shop price on bulk oil and buy from the supplier who offers the best price on the oil. You might not get the spec'd grade oil either.

Meaning if 30 grade oil was on sale and the vehicle calls for 20 grade, you'll be getting 30 grade oil. The good news is they'll be covering the warranty, and odds are you won't have a problem anyway. Enjoy the ride!

If you know the folks at the dealership, and trust them, then I would talk with them and if they don't use the TOYOTA brand oil for the free oil changes and the bulk oil they use is not as good (Toyota oil has a reputation of being good, particularly the 0W-20), then see if they will use the TOYOTA oil if you pay the difference in price from the bulk oil.

Of course, trust is the key word......if you pay extra for the Toyota oil, you want to be able to trust them to use it.

^ Lexus dealer does this all the time, My Dads 430 takes 5,5.5 but they keep charging for 7. Even after we mentioned it.
