Hey guys, I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for, so I may be the first person to inquire about this one.

I did an oil change on a friend's Toyota Matrix with the 1ZZ-FE motor last wkd, and got a 90915-YZZF1 oil filter, which is taller than the PH4967-sized one I recall being for that motor.

I've read a number of great threads on Toyota filters here just now, and given that the YZZF1 filter (PH4386 as Fram equivalent) is the exact same size as the Nissan 15208-9E000 filter (i.e. PH7317-sized), it got me curious. In going to the Fram website, the gasket outer and inner diameters differ very little between the PH4386 and PH7317 (like 0.02"), so do you guys think it will work on my Nissan Maxima?

I just wonder if the threading will work, and thought I'd post here first before I guinea pig it on my engine. I like the Toyota filters because of the one cut-out analysis thread I read comparing to the SuperTech, and the fact that these Toyota oil filters can go at least 5000 miles vs. Nissan which recommends we change at just 3750 miles.

Thanks! Would love any input.

Doesn't the Fram site list the thread size? If not, try cross-referencing the part numbers on the Wix site as they do.

If there's room, thread size and gasket match only other thing to check would be bypass pressure I think. I don't think a 0.02" difference would be a problem.

The 9e000 is actually oversized for the 3.5. It is supposed to use the shorter filter. That 9e000 already sticks over the frame rail. I'd be a little concerned going much longer. Also, Toyotas use 3/4-16 and Nissans use 20mm-1.5 which means your Toyota filter will not work.

If your friend is still within warranty, I would not play engineer and stay with the cataloged filter for that application.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Baldwin filters I've never used. I'll look into these.

Pardon my n00b question, but are those are threading numbers you've cited? If so, okay, I guess I'll have no choice but to kibosh this idea.
