I'm going to be trying out the TRD filter from Toyota (part #PTR43-00082)
does anyone have experience with the TRD line? pros/cons vs Fram Ultra, Wix, etc..
I've been using Fram Ultra up until now but I've heard of fitment issues in the cartridge filters

I have used TRD parts but IMHO regular Toyota OEM parts are top notch. There have been multiple teardown of the OEM oil filters and they are better quality than any aftermarket filter. In addition if you are willing to do a little research you can easily find a case of OEM filters for less than 4 bucks a filter.

I have a Toyota cartridge filter coming off my Lexus IS350 soon that will have 5,000 miles on it. Pretty sure it will look like the last one which was excellent. I will take a few pictures this time around, and post it in the forums. $5.99 each at my local Toyota parts department if I buy two at a time.

No TRD parts such as the oil filters I believe are made by K&N. The only only TRD parts that come stock on TRD models are shocks and cosmetic stuff. For example in my Tacoma TRD Sport model all the filters are standard 4.0 v6 OEM and nothing "TRD".

Here is a couple of other threads comparing cartridge filters for Toyota. My current favorite is the TRD PTR43-00082. Made by the same folks that make the Mobil 1 filters.

Enjoy the eye candy.

I'd rather use the OEM filter personally, near as I can tell they're the best you can get for a Toyota, I love the build quality and how well they hold up. I don't really see the need for high dollar filters, I don't think they do the job that much better to be worth the significant hike in price. Lots of engines go 300k+ miles on bargain oil and filters bought on clearance racks at parts stores which leads me to believe basic filters do the job right!

OEM is the only filter that goes on my Tacoma, same with the air filter and fuel filter too.

I used TRD filters for awhile but cost is not worth it. Guess it depends how much you pay but the OEM at less than half the price do great..as does the proselects ive been using lately.

I believe the TRD filters are made by Champ and are somewhat comparable to the Royal Purple filter in construction and efficiency.

My mother has an 2015 4Runner TRD Pro. I've personally only changed the oil once and used a WIX filter. We shall see how it holds up for the 10k OCI. I'll probably just go with Toyota next just in case the WIX isn't quite up to the task. It's nearing it's 3rd oil change in 1500 miles.

Last I looked, Fram doesn't make an Ultra for her truck. It's a cartridge btw.. I am not sure on the Tacoma. There's a thread somewhere here on the Toyota OEM when I removed it last fall.

Neither. OEM = 50% efficient at 20-mircon. TRD = 98% efficient at 20-micron, but I've seen shoddy quality control on them... and they cost an arm and a leg. Here's a LINK to a comparison I did on the TRD -vs- Fram Ultra... pics included.
