Ive got a 2002 Tacoma 3.4 which filter performs better OEM or Amsoil? I was using redline for awhile and now ive switched to amsoil. My truck has 46K. Do you thing OEM filters will hold up to six month intervals (7500 miles)? Thanks.

Between the two, I'd pick Toyota.

Sure an OEM filter will hold up to 7500 miles. How much do they cost? If they cost less than the Amsoil filter go with that. Nothing wrong with the Amsoil filter - but I don't even use them anymore.
Yes the toyota oem filter will hold up I used it exclusively for 6 month intervals on my 2002 Tacoma until recently.... I switched to a Motorcraft FL400s for the extra capacity. I would run either one with confidence or the AMsoil or several others...
I don't use Amsoil filters anymor either...even at dealer cost they are too much IMO>
When you buy your Toyota filter try to get the ones that actualy say made in Japan onthem! Look down the oil outlet hole(see bigest hole). If you see a plastic cage inside with long slits as opposed to a steel tube with lots of tiny holes that is good! The Toyota filter's with the plastic cage inside have the better filter media! IT is a synthetic glass fiber that is folded in a radial partern. A bunch of radial filter pleats are grouped together like petals on a flower! These are waht come from the factor but they are harder to find then the cheaper Toyota/Denso filters!
The Denso media isn't to shabby either in my observations.
But yes the made in Japan one is a coveted item.

They're both made by Denso, but the Toyota OEM Japanese-made Denso filters with the unique resin filter element are difficult to get in the U.S. nowadays. Toyota stopped importing them a while ago in favor of the cheaper Thailand-made Denso filters, which as you noted isn't too shabby either - just not up to par with the Japanese-made filter.
How do you know that the ones made in Thailand are not as good - and in what way? I assume this is the ones my dealer is selling, but I don't have one on hand to tell.
BTW - From the above post, it looks like the pix is of one made in Thailand, not Japan, as it has a metal inside, instead of the slitted plastic someone else mentioned.

The one pictured is made in Thailand. It is a very good filter(better than most OTC filters you will cut open)but does not have the uniqe filter media that the made in Japan one has.
