I'm sorry but I have to ask, because although you probably do not believe me, I am genuinely curious: What thought process led to the conclusion that this would be a good thing to post? I don't understand how any of the usual justifications (it would be productive, it's novel, it sounds intelligent, it seems humorous, etc.) would apply, and I can't really think of anything else.

This question applies to anyone else who posts similarly in any thread, really. If any of you all would like to comment, I'm interested to hear from you as well.

This kind of post seems increasingly common so I just want to make sure I understand the motivation behind it.

These sorts of comments are actually encouraging to an owner. They remind us that, in truth, there really isn't much of substance that you can say against Toyota (even with their recent stumbles). . . Thanks for the refreshing reminders.

1) No they aren't really different than other large corps. Please see my earlier post on this.

2) In retrospect, I should have confined my last response, perhaps to the "prostate exam" comment only, not yours, as (though I don't know it myself) that may very well have been one of the reasons for the downfall of the "Oh what a feeling" campaign (EDIT: which I never liked anyway, long before I owned a Toyota).

3) My point, however, is valid. When a poster can think of nothing more pertinent than comparing an ad campaign to a prostate exam, it's pretty obvious then that they really can't come up with anything better. Really, if I compared "Like a Rock" to passing a kidney stone, and tried to sell it as legitimate criticism of Chevrolet/GM, would you take that seriously at all? Would/should anyone? I think not.

A very half-good question. The good half? Questioning the prostate exam reference. That was totally uncalled for, and added zero substance or value to the thread. As for the other half, the kidney stone was my analogy to highlight the absurdity of the prostate exam reference. I could have just quietly moved the prostate reference over to the quarantine, but then the censorship wing of the membership would have been ignited. . .

Sounds like what the big 3 has been doing for the last 30 years....

Well, I did a Google search to try to find the article where I read (several years ago) that was cited as one of the reasons why they discontinued that ad campaign. No luck. Too many results about the recent recalls.

Well, they are the ones with the pickup truck named after a natural disaster...

Ekpolk, this thread don't have any value anyway.

Not anymore -- this one has obviously outlived its usefulness...
