Guys, seats on their $80k trucks and SUV’s are breaking before they hit 20k miles, and you are wondering about quality on RAV4.

When we had the 2014 RAV there was someone on a forum ranting about exactly the same problem. Turns out he had pants with velcro closures on the back pockets. Might want to check that before wailing on Toyota. Look for someone who sits crooked in the seat.

We did some research and also concluded it was the Velcro on the uniform back pockets. Vehicle is driven by multiple officers, used 24/7, and they are in and out a lot.

So, while we have a good explanation and hopeful solution, I will still tell you the base cloth seats seem pretty cheaply made. Vehicle was about 34-35k so I think they could have done better.

Working on seat covers at the moment before it's too late. Need recommendations for a very heavy-duty seat cover that can be purchased via our Amazon account.

I'll bet a lot of seats would look like that if every person that got in had Velcro on the pants pockets, especially base models today. That's not ordinary use.
Not defending Toyota at all as Velcro damaged seats in 2014.

I know someone who's been happy with Carhartt seat covers in his truck but looking it's nylon duck canvas not cotton duck like the coats. Hard to know what would be Velcro hook resistant.
