toyota corolla cross hybrid

at a u.s. car show in january i sat in a base model corolla cross. i have also seen many utube reviews. it felt unpolished and crude, with reviews criticizing its tepid performance, but toyota will sell tons of them.

fast forward to the hybrid model now being sold in southeast asia. wow, simply wow. i did a short test drive at a car show in both hybrid and all electric mode. for a guy who avoids hybrids and cvts i was truly impressed. not only was the driving experience seamless and even peppy but its interior is a pleasant place to inhabit. there is even a fullsize spare tire fitted inside. confirmed my long held belief that toyota doesn’t sell its best products in north america.

its local price is us$37k, but given taxes, etc on all new cars in laos that is likely $10k over what it would sell for in usa. some brochures are in english from malaysia but same specs.

some other, nice, non-american models from toyota and suzuki displayed at the show, as well as a bunch of chinese brands.

So basically a Prius V huh? I like it when it was 27K MSRP and I bought it for 22K as a left over from last year car. For 37K foreign or 27K US it is pretty much what Prius V was.

They didn't release it in the US for the same reason they discontinued Prius V (they didn't sell well because US either want extreme mpg like Prius, or super sized non hybrid like crew cabs, SUVs, "mini" van).

I am still completely thrilled with my 2023 cc hybrid.

I filled up this morning part way to work so the mileage is for the tank. The reading is confirmed accurate if a little conservative.

Hit 15 k this weekend. My true average is 45-47mpg on my 92 mule round trip
