Anyone has a new Toyota that came with 25K miles complimentary toyota care program that includes oil changes and tire rotations? I took my 2010 Corolla in for this complimentary service and found that they use conventional 0W20 Toyota oil. I rather use synthetic, but they did not have this option under the free program. They also scratched my plastic engine cover and did not clean the bottom of the engine after changing the oil. I am now due for the second oil change and I wonder if I should continue with this program or spend extra money and change oil with Mobil 1 0W20 synthetic and OEM Toyota filter myself? I am sure they use the least experienced techs to do jobs like this...

If you pay a couple of dollars they might be able to use Toyota synthetic oil.But since warranty terms usually do not force the customer to use dealership for oil changes, you can do your own oil changes better than some dealership employees.

Toyota conventional is a fine oil, I would take the free oil changes until 25k then switch over to synthetic when you have to do the service.
Are you sure Toyota 0W20 is conventional ? I think no 0W20 is conventional, it should be semi-syn or full-syn.
I would let them change the oil and filter when it's free, after the free period you can do it yourself with the oil and filter of your choice, and keep documents for warranty.

How many miles do you go between changes? This is a tough one because I have the same kind of program for my Sonata. I do the changes myself, but I am switching back so I have no warranty issues (I may be having problems with the injectors). You have a reliable car, is Mobil 1 0w20 better then what the dealer is using? Bet your [censored], but for 25k it won't kill your car and save you a little cash. After that you can use any oil/filter you want. I would just let them do it for now.

Oh I missed that little detail, if it says 0w20 on the invoice you receive after the service, It is synthetic, there is no such thing as a 0w conventional at the moment.
If it says 5w20 on the invoice it is conventional.
If it says 5w20 on the invoice it is conventional.

I am just worried about them not doing this properly - heard plenty of stories about starting engines with no oil in them, loose filter caps, etc...

It has to be an error, AFAIK I have never seen or heard of a 0w20 conventional..
Conventional in terms of labeling, because what is labeled "synthetic" for the most part in the USA is not really synthetic.
I would call and ask someone who knows the answer...
I would really not worry about them doing it wrong, if they fail to do any of the above it is their behind on the line. I would also have brought the car back when I found the scratch and got them to replace it. You asked for an oil change, not an oil change and a scratch.

I did, it just takes so much time to argue about this stuff and my schedule is very tight. When I got the car back from them I noticed the scratch on the engine cover and also a fresh scratch on the rear bumper. The manager was not available at the time, so I had to come back the next day, leave the car there, etc...

If you're worried about them not wiping the bottom of the engine clean, you should probably be changing the oil yourself.
I have that plan and my dealer used 0W20 Mobil 1. I asked several times before what oil they used to make sure. My dealer is reasonable and nothing broken so far. However, Prius is spec for 0W20. Not sure of new corolla, probably similar as engine is similar (minus the Atkinson cycle).
I am under and use this plan for my three Toyota's. It basically boils down to if you trust your dealership service department or not.
If you do not trust them, then all this talk of what they put in does not matter and just do it yourself. That being said, my dealer and my experience has been good. Since it is also a tire rotation, I look upon it as a easy free first 5 services that are dealer documented and will help down the road if you run into other problems and have to show documented history of service.
Just be warned that some dealers will try to do a premature up sell of air and cabin filters at the 15K mark. These are easy to do yourself and go aftermarket on the filters.
