I am still deciding what oil filter to use with my new 2004 Camry LE-V6 - 3.0. I can get the Toyota OEM Oil Filter - #08922-02011 for about $4.00 a piece. Is this a good filter to use in the Camry? Any recommendations or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Might I suggest the Purolator equivalent - PL10241 or L10241. Or you can also buy the Napa/Wix equivalent. These are all excellent filters.

The OEM Toyota filter is an excellent filter. You can't do much better than that. Other excellent filters include the Napa Gold and the Mobil 1 filters. Both of these have silicone anti-drainback valves, as does the Toyota filter.
I've got the same engine in my wife's '03 Highlander. I'm currently using a Trasko filter. I'll find out a few years from now whether this was worth the cost, but it definitely keeps the oil cleaner.

i would get a 90915-YZZB9 or if you can find them, the 90915-20004 Lexus V8 filter. Bith are made by Denso in Japan. The 90915-YZZDx series are good, too, but are made in Thailand by Toyoda Boshoku.
I've got a 2003.5 V-6 LE myself (latter half of '03 MY got the 210 hp VVT-i engine with 5-spd auto just like you have. Trying a K&N filter for the first time, and running GC for over 5,000 miles, I got the this very solid used oil analysis result. I'd have to say that the K&N, which is believed by some to let tons of stuff get by, did pretty well for me. I've also used Mobil 1 filters in my car for a long time, with no apparent ill effects, despite their alleged over-restrictiveness. In fact, I got another good used oil analysis, this time on my wife's V-8 Sequoia, running a Mobil 1 filter(click here to see Sequoia used oil analysis w/ Mobil 1 filter).
I just wondered why the DENSO is almost $2.50 more than the Toyota. Also I thought the Toyota filter was a Denso anyway.

My last Toyota filter was a Tennex.
Seems that the USA and Japan filters are good.
Never did care for the looks of the Thailand filter. Cost cutting sucks. I'd rather pay a buck more for a better filter(if that can be proved or not).
Is there room for a bigger filter?
I'm using motorcraft filters in the 4.7 and 1.8 motors.

I picked up a Purolator-made Quaker State (White can) for the 97 Camry, but I got an oversized model. PN QS2951. I believe there are larger models available QS8A and another one, I forgot the #
My choice would be the Purolator Pure One filter. Above average filtration and moderate cost.

The K&N oil filter is made by Champion Laboratories to have average filtration and very high flow for modified engines with high output oil pumps. Mobil 1 filters, also made by Champion Labs, are made to have above average filtration and flow matched to the OEM filter for that engine. The oil filter can't put out more oil to flow than the oil pump is putting out, and it must'nt restrict flow more that the OEM filter the engine designer put on that engine.

My only concern about the Purolators is the relatively small number of threads in the baseplate. For the filters I use, the P has about half the number on the Champion made filters. This is probably not that important; I've personally heard no stories of Purolator filters backing themselves off during normal use.
I decided to try the K&N because I'd heard a bunch of stories about it not filtering well b/c/o its bias toward flow. Well, as you can see from the link I posted, it seems to have done OK, at least in my case. I usually use M1s, and I could not observe any difference in performance from behind the wheel, and again got a great UOA with it. It sure would be nice to know if there are any long term issues with using a filter like the K&N in a street car that's exepcted to stay in service for many years.
