Toyota AUS style

I was about to reply asking if you were thinking of then Hilux Champ.
I wish we had those in Australia but they refuse to bring them in. A lot of people think it’s due to Toyota not wanting to cut into sales of the regular Hilux rather than due to emissions or safety.
All I think of when I hear or see “Hilux” is technicals and security force trucks in Afghanistan, lol

you made my point to the original title.......and yet you joined.

you missed the point fella.............

Big price difference in this and the LC from Toyota. Big difference. A reasonably price, utilitarian vehicle.

It is dumb that we cannot have modern LCs like in Australia, here in the USA....becuase of emissions or "SAFETY" regulations. If it is safe in Australia, it should be just fine here.

Dont derail the thread.
Don't tell me what to do ;)

The title you originally chose was clickbait and utter speak for yourself. You chose to play smart - deal with it. Can't get it right every time - it was a dumb move, and I applaud that it was changed. So there.

As for the price of the Ineos and how much un-Toyotish it is - it's actually on Australian YT reviews that you see the Toyotas you discuss and the Ineos compared apples to apples, at equal equipment, and they end up costing the same - to the cent. Just different ways to get there, and the need to install stuff yourself in the case of the Toyota.

An Australian member himself commented here that those are NOT cheap vehicles there and never have been. They are not the cheap and reliable dream you present them to be. They are amazing machines for an acquired taste, more power to them for having them, sucks for us for not having them. Leave smartness and stupidity out of it.

Are they popular?

A member here, I want to say in one of the Scandinavian countries, had one and posted about it here. He said he liked it.

We have no small SUV with clearance or breakover angles anywhere close to the Duster.
I’m not sure if they’re popular. I’ve never seen one on the roads, only in adverts.

We have a few small SUVs down here but off the top of my head the Suzuki Jimny might be the only one that’s really suitable for off-roading. It’s available in 3 door short wheelbase, 5 door long wheelbase and there is rumour of a ute coming soon.

This is incorrect. The millennials realize that the tech in their phone is years ahead of whatever the car screen offers.

The people that want the big screen are old fogies who think navigation is still high tech - even though google maps with real time traffic is superior.
My Tahoe navigation is Google maps based …

Does it come with an engine that doesn’t blow up?

That would make it a lot more attractive than what we get…
Yes, but for us - the rest of the drive-line failed more than Ford SD in real truck usage … (hauling equipment in 4WD) …

we have the most boring automotive market on planet Earth. it's all the same stuff year after year after year. the same boring lifeless colors. there is no variety. i am just coming back from Chile. it was an explosion of colors, of hundred of various brands and an almost infinite variety of models. the North American Automotive market is a prison. it's depressing.
So true. I came from a 3rd world/ developing country and was so surprised how bland is the US/Canada automotive market.

So not true. Over 40 makes - from economy to exotic …
yeah but most are the same thing with a different badge.....and have made legends of the past neutered, silly, formless, and a shell of a vehicle with no soul.

kombucha tea, but with different coloring

Yup. But still bland. And some or let say majority of manufacturers not considerate enough to bring their coolest variants here that most of the world can get. Good thing we can import 20 year old cool cars. But some states I think, are starting to ban this practice. Not sure. Hopefully not.

You could always import from where you came.
On ignore.

I don't know specifically about these but Toyota has said they don't sell the Hilux here due to the reasons @Astro14 already said - emissions and safety. Hence they invented the Tacoma which is bigger, softer and less capable.
They are not more capable than a Tacoma TRD Pro - comfort taking away from off-road prowess is a myth …

The trd is longer, wider, and has worse break-over angles. The Hilux will go further on a tank of diesel - at least compared to the the ICE version, and has larger tow capacity and cargo capacity, unsure on the hybrid? Unfortunately they both went IFS years ago, although Hilux did finally get 4 wheel disk brakes sooner. Hilux has always had a stiffer frame - I haven't seen a compare of the frame to the new Taco.

So no, not so, although new Hilux model next year. We shall see. Its looking pretty lavish inside, so plenty of comfort but still capable.

At least there is still Jeep here that has front SA..

I like the 21st century. Independent air bag suspension, comfort, sport mode, active ride, active roll. Why would I want to go backwards?
For me, there is a connected, visceral experience with a vehicle that lacks all of that nonsense. It’s probably why I much prefer motorcycles.

Being able to feel engine and driveline vibrations through the shifter (and being able to notice when a certain vibratory frequency isn’t normal) is something I miss about manual transmissions. I still hold my hand on my console shifter in my Navigator out of habit and still have some sense of what the vehicle is doing mechanically. Being able to modify springs and shocks/struts to suit my driving preference is great. My requirements for a vehicle are pretty much the following: power locks, power windows, power mirrors.

All of this interventionist tech annoys me. If someone is turning in front of me 6 school bus lengths ahead and I know they will make the turn before I even get close to them, I don’t need the vehicle intervening and applying brakes for me or beeping at me. I get that this sort of thing is great for inattentive cell phone addled zombies or old drivers whose driving ability has weakened with age, but it isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t need a vehicle warning me of anything because I take driving seriously and know that inattentiveness and carelessness can lead to disastrous results.

Have you actually operated the Hilux ? I have … countless driveline failures - but carry on …

You can’t avoid the Nanny state even with a Landcruiser.
