Toyota AUS style

Why aren't those sold here ? Could just be that Toyota chooses not to sell them here.
I would say the diesel would need to have stricter emissions for the USA. Then they would have less power and more warranty work. We were to have a particulate filter added to gasoline engines in the next couple years, but the government decides to put that on hold until at least 2029.
 
On the lower end of the price bracket - those would be hit by the Chicken tax.
In the middle and up - they will cost an arm and a leg to bring to regulation, resulting in the prices we know for luxury stuff, for something that rides like it did in the sixties.
Even in Australia, the V8 diesel was discontinued for emissions reasons. The last few years of builds were reserved in advance.

For anyone looking for something similar and lamenting the lack of serious gear on the market - put your money where your mouth is, and get an Inneos. It's out there, it's solid, and it's waiting for your money. It's not even that expensive for what it brings.

Last but not least - I call clickbait trash on the title. It's comfortably appealing, meme-worthy, and screaming "speak for yourself". Shame.

Because western drivers see their vehicles as social media interface centres instead of transportation. It’s amazing how far you have to dig into manufacturers websites to get technical specifications but all the millennials are happily dancing to the giant screened dashboards on the main page.
As a Millennial, I disagree. You do know that most of us are in our 30s and early 40s right? You might be thinking of Gen Z. I grew up driving manual vehicles and although my degrees are in I.T., I want nothing to do with tech other than surfing BITOG when I’m not at work. Most Millennials I know are like me. Most Millennials I know also fought in Afghanistan and Iraq…just sayin.

You could be right on the group he is thinking of, but I have two gen Z daughters and the last thing they think is cool is the outdated screen in the car, so his stereotype is even further off if thats it. :ROFLMAO:
 
As I said in the Porsche thread, I love driveable classics.

To keep making them is a pretty great. Even if it dilutes the thing a bit…

I can’t imagine it’s up to par for modern vehicles, even if some of it is modernized.

Pretty neat that it’s available though. Can’t imagine it’s that great to drive though. They never were. Took to the FJ80…

Upwards of $110,000 AUD ($73K USD) for the last of the 4.5L diesel V8 models (discontinued last year), or approx $90,000 AUD ($60k USD) for the 4 cylinder 2.8TD that replaces it.

The interior is VERY dated, harking back to its 80s origins of hard plastics, and cloth. It was only in the last 5 years or so that electric windows and a multimedia screen became standard fit.

My neighbours across the road bought a brand new 2.8TD wagon last year for reasons unknown but to them alone I guess.

If I could import a new left hand drive LC76 from a South American country, without waiting for it to reach 25 years of age, I'd do so tomorrow. I had a 1995 FZJ80 Landcruiser from new. It had lockers front and rear, but the 1FZ-FE gas engine and 4-speed auto weren't really what I'd hoped for.

So they don't much like them where they are sold, why would we like them here? Very likely aren't enough people that want to look like they're going to the outback or are in agriculture that would buy them even if they were US compliant. The BITOG Luddites wouldn't spend the $$, would wait til they're 20 years old.

Big price difference in this and the LC from Toyota. Big difference. A reasonably price, utilitarian vehicle.

It is dumb that we cannot have modern LCs like in Australia, here in the USA....becuase of emissions or "SAFETY" regulations. If it is safe in Australia, it should be just fine here.

These trucks stripped down new start out at under $20k USD in South East Asia. I see them frequently, and concur if offered in the USA, they would have much more demand than Toyota could supply.

On the other hand, had coffee with a Toyota salesman last week. He stated the new USA Toyota trucks are overpriced by about six grand, that is why they have new truck availability. I imagine a $20k USD Toyota bare bones truck would crush Toyota's current very lucrative truck sales.

Which countries are new land cruisers $20K? You may have identified my new retirement location.

I always thought Land Cruisers were cheapest in Japan?

I was about to reply asking if you were thinking of then Hilux Champ.
I wish we had those in Australia but they refuse to bring them in. A lot of people think it’s due to Toyota not wanting to cut into sales of the regular Hilux rather than due to emissions or safety.
