A few months back, I posted a thread, asking what happened to the mini-truck. The answer that came back, is that CAFE forces small trucks into a bucket, which demands unreasonable mpg, thus the OEM's don't even try.

Personally, I'm IN for a simple, small truck, manual transmission, 2.5L, or so. Bonus points for 6' bed.

This is incorrect. The millennials realize that the tech in their phone is years ahead of whatever the car screen offers.

The people that want the big screen are old fogies who think navigation is still high tech - even though google maps with real time traffic is superior.

I think you're buying a cab/chassis with no bed and nothing about dumping.

edit: the 4 door truck ute with a "tray" is around $60k USD.

They wouldn't sell here as much as we would like to think they would. The first picture in the original post is about $61,000 USD. Most would just buy a full size pickup and say it was too expensive and the 2.8L diesel too underpowered.

Totally agreed. Underpowered but also too small without what US truck buyers go after with buying them. Image, amenities, and comfort/luxury. The vast majority never use their truck beds of go off-road.

There is a reason domestic mini trucks are nowhere or idiotic. No one wants a old school Ranger or S10 and the chicken tax killed the rest. The people that buy new vehicles want a spacious luxury vehicle with 600HP so that is what is sold.
