Replaced with the same, I picked up a 5 pack a while back, about $4 per which ain't bad for OEM. I've got the other 4 still left, i haven't really been motivated to move away from these yet, they do great.

Obviously so, but why stop there? My car uses the same cartridge. The Toyota filter from the last change done by my dealer "handled" over 18k "just fine." Other than a few tiny carbon particles it captured, and obviously being oily, it came out looking like new. Although these are reputedly only mediocre in efficiency, I have more confidence that they won't collapse or bypass oil around the ends than any other filter I've seen for these cars. Good design, and well made.

Doesn't Toyota recommend 10,000 mile intervals?
That filter looks just fine for 5,000 miles and would be no problem to go 10,000 (says the guy that can't make himself go more than 7500 miles for an OCI).

I believe newer Toyota's run 10k with this same filter, so it's "manufacturer approved" to do so. I change it at 5k because that's when the light comes on, and after the rebate its a $15 oil change. I figure it's cheap insurance.

I've been considering pushing it to at least 7.5k after what I've learned in my first year browsing BITOG.

The gf's '10 1.8 is currently on the same filter. I used Fram EG before the OEM when I got them for about a buck each on RA. Those also held up to 5k intervals with 0 issues.

Some photos of the filter pulled apart. Only a few carbon flakes in a few pleats, I'm really considering extending the OCI, I'm reluctant to pay $28 for a UOA to save on a $15 oil change though. Do I need the UOA or is it safe to extrapolate from the UOA data on PP in other engines? I'm going for ludicrous mileage on this vehicle.

Looks clean...you're using PP? I think you could use data from other similar engines to extend. Depending on your driving habits, 10k miles is not u thinkable and 7500 probably easy.
