Looking at extended towing options - AAA plus or premium seems to be the best for anything in 100 miles or above category, that is what am after.

Appreciate your pick or preference? Thanks

Depends what it is available in your area. AAA Premier is generally the least expensive for a membership. Keep in mind that there is a long waiting period (2 weeks for existing) if you upgrade, so this is something that you need to have in place before a breakdown occurs. Also, AAA does not always promise to tow you back immediately if it is a long-haul rental; it can take a few days before the vehicle reaches the destination and it may go thru multiple providers.

Good Sam- Many Options

New members often get a great deal if you hold out. I got 3yrs for $99
RV and big truck towing as well

good.webp

In the 90’s I saw the northeastern USA with AAA Plus. The furthest I went was 93 miles. I know for a fact there was no enforcement of # of times in a year. Today I believe there is.

I canceled AAA and of course wife’s starter broke. Briefly considered diy but remembered one cat has to be removed and I can’t even seem to do O2 sensors…(angles and space and no lift)

I say AaA as long as you’re good with a high price annually. And you know you’re car is problematic

Get quote from USHIP. Have used them few times very economical. I create listing with delivery date several days or weeks out. You receive more bids. Cheaper since they don’t think you’re in a rush. Check reviews of bidders. You pay after item delivered to you.
How does that work out if you break down 200 miles from home?

A reminder that AAA is regional with regional differences.

I paid a local guy cash, $4 a mile and he waived the hookup fee.

@maverickfhs what is the driver to having coverage for >100 miles? I would think that if you didn't pay for that extra difference that would help to offset the cost of having something done at the breakdown area and pay for most of a hotel for a day or 2. It feels like this is going to be relatively expensive and not used very often.

FWIW my auto insurance covers towing up to 75 miles. It is included in the cost, so I can't tell you the price. I'd estimate that is roughly 1-1/2 hours from home...

Just my $0.02

If you don't have roadside service and you break down in the middle of no where-it is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to pay commercial rates. And out "West" there ARE places in the middle of no where-where you would have to find someone even to make the cellphone call for you when they reached cellphone coverage. So basically-use it once and it pays for itself more than the cost of membership.

I'm pretty sure OP is talking about towing their car after it breaks down on the road, not a shipping service takes a week or two to pick it up. With that said, I have the AAA Premier + Battery which gives one tow to 200 miles and rest to 100 miles and one free battery. Costs about $160 annually. The battery alone pretty much covers the membership. Just got this one a few months ago,

I don’t see anything about a free battery. Link?

This is a general description of Classic, Plus, and Premier Membership benefits. Full details will be provided to you when you join AAA, or upgrade your membership.
Don't think they advertise it. You're offered the benefit after you become a member for $10 or $15 extra.

That was the point I tried and failed to make. The OP wants towed home from greater than 100 miles. He doesn't want to get quotes from car haulers and wait weeks to do it.
