towing from greensboro nc to seiverville tn

Will be traveling to a campground in Dandridge tn. near Sevierville tn. How steep is the grade on this trip? I have towed from Greensboro to Asheville. Been over Black Mountain. Is it any harder of a pull from Asheville to Sevierville?

03 avalanche 5.3 3.73 rearend, tru-cools biggest transcooler. Jayco 23b travel trailer close to 5000lbs. equalizer hitch with 10k bars.

I'd check all fluids and tire pressures before leaving, do any preventive maintenance now, and use tow/haul mode if you have one or even shift manually when you get to the hilly areas.

Do you have a way to monitor trans temps?

I have a gauge in the service port of the trans. My last trip to Asheville, i saw 175 or so going up black mountain.

I'm more interested in the route past Asheville, curious if there are steeper grades than black mountain, similar or even steeper.

Black mountain will be the longest and steepest pull by far. Still some pulls West of Asheville especially around Cherokee if you’re going the scenic routes but if you’ve pulled Black mountain, the rest of the way to Sevierville, Gatlinburg will be a cake walk. Make sure your cooling system and a/c is in top shape as you’re sure to be in a lot of stop and go traffic. Send some pics of the Avalanche hooked up and ready to go. I have a 2005 Avalanche that’s nearing 198,000 Miles.

Thanks, thats what i wanted to know. I just replaced all the cooling hoses and the water pump, rebuilt trans with tru-cools biggest trans cooler. The rear end is being rebuilt now as it has a whine at 40mph. ( previous owner towed a boat so it saw water immersion). I've got the break the new rear gears in for 500 miles before i tow.

As stated you are not going to see anything more strenuous than Black Mountain on I40 past Asheville. It is somewhat winding but the grade is ok. Have a good time!

After rear end break-in, be sure to change out the fluid.

They have a pretty specific beak-in routine, that i'm going to follow, including changing the oil at 500 miles. My truck is spec'd for 80-90 they want me to run 75-140. They also prefer non synthetic.
