Total Rubia Tir 8600 10w40

Hi,
I've bought a fendt 718 tractor with a deutz tcd 2012 engine, and i'm trying to figure out which oil to use.
The manual says to use ACEA E3-96, from 5w30 - 15w40.

Does this oil meet specs and be a good choice? I can get this oil quite cheap!

Yes, you can use that oil. E7 is better than the old E3.

But how does this oil compare with the modern fuel save and dpf approved oils in terms of protecting the engine? They are very expensive, and if it's not worth the money i'll problably go with the Total 8600 10w40 mentioned earlier.

That is a really good oil for a pre-DPF/SCR diesel, I use something quite similar in my 05 Unimog.
It has a higher TBN than you need for your ultra low sulfur fuel, but if you can get it inexpensively I'd use it.
Emission control oils do NOT "protect the engine better" - they protect the emission components.
