I saw this online while looking for oil for a friends TDI. I noticed it is Dexos 2 rated but also it is a SM oil. How is that possible?

I thought the "dexos" thing had super strict requirements that had to meet todays standards? I dont know much about dexos but i thought it meant it had to be rated sn atleast.

I would almost run it in my altima if its a diesel rated 5w30. Im currently on 10w-40 because my v6 has a huge consumption problem.

Plenty of oils out there that are dual rated (gasoline/diesel).

Wait. I just checked their website and it says SN on the specs. I guess the retailer listed it wrong.

What Quattro Pete was getting at is that the Sx spec is for gasoline engines and dexos2 is a diesel performance spec (set by GM). dexos1 (also set by GM) is a gasoline performance spec. So one oil can be SM and dexos2.
