Toshiba Tecra A50-D Cooling Fan

I have a six year old Toshiba Tecra A50-D laptop that I love and want to keep. The cooling fan has been occasionally rattling and has now stopped, causing a warning notice. At the same time the computer has slowed a lot, I presume a safety feature to keep it from overheating. I am operating it for short periods with an external personal fan blowing in the vents which has been keeping it from overheating.

If I replace the fan will the computer automatically return to normal speed?

And where can I get a replacement fan? I find many online for the A50-C series but not the D series. Will the C series fan fit the A50-D?

I really need to get this fixed quickly and any advice is greatly appreciated!

I suggest looking at your original fan, get a part number off it, and search by that part number.

There is a good chance it will fit. I found a few references that the C model has a lower resolution screen vs the D model. This can be a treasure hunt trying to find parts listings. I would say its a safe and cheap bet the C fan will fit. Here is a few I found. It can be normal operation for the BIOS to control fan speed based on cpu usage and temperature sensors. It may also be clogged with pet hair, dust etc if you have cats or dogs.

Thanks all. I took it to a shop for disassembly and examination. He got the fan to work but it was quirky so we decided to replace it. Based on photos it appears the "C" version will work with the "D" version computer so long as the voltage matches. I found those ones above online but they are coming from China with long deliveries. I did find one in NY with fast delivery and ordered it. The laptop is running okay for now so I have a little time.
