Torrid got a new toy. 2024 Tesla Model Y Performance.

Maybe now is the time to get one if you want one before the tax credit goes away. I definitely would, but I don't need a car now.
I think it would be hard for me to recreate the deal I just got. It all depends on how quick the supply dries up when the new Model Y comes out and if the tax credit does manage to continue.

Even then it was the perfect storm. Tesla basically gave it away by giving a crazy number for the trade, a discount, and promo interest. I know people say Tesla makes good margins on their cars, but it felt like they gave me all the profit from it to move the car.

There’s no one else I could have gotten this much car from for the money. A new GTI with the trade value and worse interest rates would have been a lot more costly. My only options I considered after all this was added in was to get the Model Y Performance or keep my GTI. The MYP at this price is a performance bargain now that it has the software track pack that the new Model 3 Performance has with endurance, drift mode, and adjustable front and rear AWD bias. The Model 3 Performance is a bit faster being lighter and bit better range. There’s the other associated losses by being a bit bigger in a crossover body, but it gets 90%-95% there for what ended up being $10k less and the Model 3 didn’t have the same promo rates.

I just wish the MYP got the Highland M3P seats. That’s the one thing I really wish it had.

In a few months it just might. I would have waited. The new M3P is actually a decent car if you go for Tesla's aesthetic it seems. They fixed how loud they were, they gave it a decent suspension, the brakes are better, and thermal management is better. All without a price hike. It's literally the first Tesla I've seen that I might consider if I didn't see build quality issues with the exact one I was looking at.

I think the credit was going to die before that happens, but it’s still a possibility. The reality is that then we would have two Model 3s and I would have lost some hatchback capability. That and the additional $4,300 off I received. I think what I ended up with was the best fit for my needs. The biggest problems I had with the GTI were traction and ground clearance in snowy conditions and should no longer be an issue. I also would have had to buy new wheels and tires immediately for winter with the Model 3 Performance only coming with summer tires.

They’ve definitely improved build quality. I’ve at minimum lucked out twice now. Really though for what most cars are going for getting this level of performance for $50k you might have to give some concessions somewhere. All of Teslas competition is more expensive.

I'd just buy what you want regardless of the $7500. That's what I did, and I do not regret it.

I just got the registration packet from Tesla and got everything registered in Wisconsin. They classify the Model Y as a truck for registration purposes.

Just read through this. How are you getting along so far? ****, imo, that’s a lot of car for the price.

Best color combo imo, I love the interior. The red has a glow to it in-person, really nice. I have yet to see the silver.

It's been wonderful really. I definitely find it to be quite a bit more relaxing than my outgoing GTI. I didn't realize how much road noise that car had until I started driving the Tesla every day. I always was a Apple CarPlay person, though I thought the way Spotify worked on my wife's Model 3 was a lot better. I definitely prefer the Tesla interface and I was concerned about getting rid of the buttons. I just made sure I put shortcuts to my most used apps and functions on the hot key row on the bottom of the screen. This was more of a non issue for me than I would have thought.

I will say the 21" wheels are a bit much on rougher roads, but it's very smooth and quiet on the highway. Any concerns I thought I might have going full EV were alleviated in the first week. It did feel like a big jump getting rid of our last ICE vehicle and I'd do it again without question. Really the kicker as you mention is just the amount of car I got for the money. What's shocking to me is how much these seats actually feel like leather. They seemed more rubbery in black in my wife's car. I don't know if all the material has changed in both colors or if the white has always felt like a more premium material.

I know many have their thoughts on fit and finish of Teslas in general and I don't think it's an $80k vehicle for sure, but it feels a lot nicer than $44k would suggest.

Good stuff.

You getting another one let’s me know a lot about Tesla. They seem to be doing everything right.

Price point is a lot of it. I feel like it’s a lot of car for the money now that prices are where they are at. I was out the door for less than the Model 3 RWD we bought 2 years ago which shows how much it has dropped. I also didn’t get the tax credit on the first car. I think there are better EVs out there and would hold Lucid as the pinnacle for a luxury option, but there’s just not much playing in Tesla’s price range.

I’d love to check out the i4 M50, but I never bothered going to a dealer to try one because I considered it out of my price range from the start. I’ve had higher end cars, but they were all used purchases and I’ve never crossed the $50k price point for a car. Not that I wouldn’t. I just don’t see myself financially there buying a car. I’d have to space my car purchases out a bit to get there where I felt comfortable at that price.

Some fresh photos. I was able to get both cars cleaned up today with it being a bit warmer. I think this is the first pictures I've taken since getting the windows tinted.
