I just installed some nerf/step bars for my 1997 GMC sierra and the instructions did not say what the torque specs were for the mounts. I think the brackets are using the same bolt that is also the body mount. Anyone know the torques spec for this? Also the bolts that attach the bar to the bracket need to be torqued. Any ideas on how tight? They are Pro Maxx brand stainless steel 3 inch bars. Nothing is mentioned on their website either. I just want to make sure they are tightened up properly and evenly. Many thanks!

In absence of the torque specs you can use one of the many SAE guides like this:

http://www.imperialsupplies.com/pdf/A_FastenerTorqueCharts.pdf

note the difference between fine and coarse thread and also the size refers to the diameter of the bolt not the size wrench you are using on it. Most common hardware bolts are Grade 5 but be aware of what grade bolt you are using as well. This, like all these charts, is a guideline only. Different conditions / finishes etc. affect the value. I have never had any issues using a chart for situations where the torque is not provided. I have a chart like this hanging in my garage actually.
