No offense, but I hate it when people do #@$%! like that. Why waste the time and money throwing random #@$%! on, when you could take your vehicle to a reputable shop who will diagnose and fix it correctly the first time? You now in the end it's going to cost more time, and probably more money, just throwing parts on the vehicle.

1)

2) send me your checkbook, then worry about it
3) most shops in this area "prefer" not to work on pre-ODBII cars (aka: ends up taking twice as long to diagnose anything)
4) I enjoy turning wrenches and learning where everything is on my car
5) she's old, replacing parts so they don't fail later works for me

that's like asking why you'd replace belts/hoses if they haven't broken! PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE.

Rereading my post, I was probably a bit harsh. My apologies. I can appreciate point 4 you made above, but I still disagree with just throwing stuff against the proverbial wall and hoping it sticks. You're trying to "fix" your transmission by replacing random parts, not performing preventative maintenance imo. Transmission maintenance, in my mind, would include such things as fluid and filter changes, etc.

Regarding checkbooks, well, our differences in opinion(s) might result in one being larger than the other, and I happen to think ultimately mine would be that one. My time is worth money, and I prefer to fix something right the first time. But again, I do appreciate your wanting to learn about your car.

ahhh, yes, throwing parts in her....it really isn't too fix my transmission.
ya see, i have too many posts on here regarding my little daily driver, kinda hesitates, or you could call it a surge and a lifter tick....
since i gave her a full tuneup (other than o2 sensor, can't get that out....maybe i will try the candle trick tomorrow) and someone suggested it might be the engine coolant temperature sensor (since when she's cold, it pops a few times and acts like it's out of gas)....I'm too stubborn to let her go (and my F150 Lariat is in storage) so I'm just wrenching away against the advice of my fiance, family, mechanic, best friend, etc etc.

the transmission was serviced before i owned her, at 60k and then by me at 138k (about 2k ago) and i sometimes wonder if the surge is actually transmission slippage....I recently had the pan dropped (wish i had done it, but i just got back from Iraq and didn't have the time, nor patience to do much of anything, gotta keep moving) and fluid serviced by the same place that rebuilt our Civic transmission...so i'm a bit paranoid about transmissions right now and figured Lubegard can only help.

One thing that was done with the Dodge/Chrysler vehicles was the use of an antifoaming stuff. ATF +4 has more anti-foam than the previous ATF +3 (if it had any at all). I'm a member at dodgeintrepid.net and the topic comes up from time to time. As far as I know, you can use ATF +4 in transmissions using ATF +3. Converter shudder and another occurance called bump shift or bump stop, where the transmission does a funny down shift from 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop, are common problems on the DC vehicles and the fluid foaming was alledgely to blame. The programming of the TCM also can contribute to these issues, especially the speed at which the TCM is programmed to lockup the TC.
