Toro point gap setting

My old push Toro from around 1984 or so died. I had previously rebuilt the carbs a while back and it was actually running pretty good. It just won't start. So I went thru the trouble shooting guide in the manual, eliminating everything but the points and condensor. Being of a DIY mindset I took it apart to get to the points. Hmmm..no point gap, I guess the block just rubbed away so they no longer open. Anybody know where to find the point gap specs? OTW, I'll just open it up a bit and see if it takes. The points no longer seem to be produced so I just cleaned them up.

Who makes the engine? Briggs, Suzuki, Kawasaki?

I know for a fact Briggs still makes points. If you wanted, you can put a solid state magnetron ignition in there to eliminate the points completely.

You can try .020" when fully open.

Agreed, that's the spec on most small engines.

Put some grease on the block and eccentric to slow down the rubbing block wear.

I believe its a Suzuki and I'll go with .020. It's got a little felt pad that was designed to hold some lubricant to minimize rubbing block wear, but given that it is over 25 years old and this is the first time I've opened it up it could be why the wear has accelerated. Thanks all.
