Torn Purolators: they DO TEAR!

I have an old white one on my car now. Got some on clearance for like a dollar or something at Walmart.
It replaced the ultra that tried to murder my engine.
I'll see if the Purolator tears. Hope not cuz I got like 4 more.

I haven't seen one torn - was it posted here?

I recall seeing a few torn filters posted by our former Car51, but I've also seen plenty of torn ADBV's because of burrs.

Feel free to look it up.

No media tears but they're still abysmal quality. Tiny, often sealed louvers, and ADBV tears are common. When you can get an Ultra for $8 or a Boss for $12 it should be a no brainer.

I got the new Purolator One blue can when the first came out for $5.95 a can shipped when they first came out and they are much higher efficiency than the Boss but rated for 10K rather than 20K. I've run these with no cuts, no tares for OCI's of just over 5K. My car will likely never see a 10K OCI and I don't leave filters on. My basic objective is Maximum protection at about half the cost of the oil store or Stealership.

Strange both Purolator and Wix are owned by Mann + Hummel but it seems like Purolators are their budget line, then Wix then M + H or M + H then Wix.

Until I see many C&P's from Puro with consistent even pleating, no tears, and no cuts in the ADBV, why bother running a known inferior filter?!

I think I'll try one next on the Toyota.

Purolator's actual slogan is "Nothing Gets By Us". Talk about hilarious in more ways than one.

I wonder if they knew about their Cellulose bypass valves?

How could they not?! Many members here contacted Purolator at the time, and Purolator just made stupid excuses. People would post about tearing filters on Purolator's Facebook, and all those posts would magically disappear. I'm sure people from Purolator were reading this forum, probably still are. Might even have a planted troll or two.

I'm relatively new to this world of oil / oil filters and have been using the STP Maximum Life filters in my 2017 Jeep Patriot. It's probably already commonly known that these Max Life filters are basically Purolator BOSS filters relabeled.... Do I need to worry about these ( Max Life filters ) filters tearing as well? Have the Puro BOSS filters also been known to tear like their basic filters?

Then let that be their idiot tax for doing nothing about it.

No Boss tears that I know about, and I don' think they would tear either.

Have seen pictures of a cut ADBV on a Boss filter. I cut one open when they first came out, and mine looked very good. No cuts on ADBV.

Still don't get it why Purolator is doing nothing about the other filters tearing plus the cut ADBV. Back in the day, a Purolator oil filter with a jug of Texaco Havoline was all a man needed to keep an engine clean.

I've used several Puros on the CX-5, never cut one open and found a tear. An end cap that popped off with less pressure than I thought acceptable, but who am I to judge what that pressure should be?

Thanks for the info... Gives me some peace of mind as I went out and bought 3 of the original USA Made Max Life filters recently ( all I could find ) as they are now being made in China and it appears that they've changed up the materials being used to make them.
