Currently I am using Torco SR-1 5w-40 in my GTI 1.8Turbo. Does anyone have any experience or feedback about this oil? Further, I was interested in Schaeffer 7000 5w-40, can anyone chime in on this oil? If you have a similar engine that is turbocharged and driven real hard, what oil do you use or would recommend? Thanks

Scheaffer's is top notch. I am also a big fan of Pennzoil Platinum. If 5w-40 works for you than go with it. I use 5w30 and 0w30 in my V8.

Schaeffers 7000 is PAO and severely processed grp II. Not sure which is more abundant. Schaeffers has moly and penetro - both are additives that bond to the metal and smooth the surface at the micron level - this gives excellent wear protection (esp. at cold start since the moly layer stays in place). Schaeffers is known for having robust and stable TBN. Sch. is known for having excellent used oil analysis on BITOG. And Sch. if VERY reasonably priced. Also, Sch. 9000 is barely above 7000 in price, yet is grp III and PAO.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't Torco products priced similar to RedLine racing oils? Perhaps RedLine would be in the same market as Torco.

I don't think Schaeffer has an oil even close to the price of Torco's oils but they do make some of the finest oils for the price range they are in.

Schaeffer does not make a 5W40 in the 7000 series oils, but they do in the 9000 series, and as stated it is a mix of Group III and PAO base. The Torco SR-1 is mostly Group III base. The Torco racing oils are PAO/Ester base.

I would choose the Schaeffer 9000 5W40 over the SR-1. Just my opinion.

I assumed Torco's oils started at about $10 a qt. I don't have any experience with their oils but they seem to be regarded highly.
I agree with the Schaeffer 9000 5W40 choice. I love the stuff.
