My 99 honda civic burns about 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles. I currently have Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 in it. Is it okay to top up with some old oil I have. I have Quaker State green bottle conventional. It's a different brand & that is why I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

Sounds fine to me. That isn't terrible consumption either, I'm sure it'll run on whatever you throw at it.
I agree that's not bad consumption at all relatively speaking. You didn't say how many miles but I assume it's mucho at this point given the age. I agree also that at this point it's not going to make much difference if you mix oils. I have heard the caveats about mixing oil for a long time due to the possible adverse chemical reactions but after more than 40 years experience of seeing people mix oils (myself included), I have never seen any serious, or even moderate, adverse reactions or problems resulting from the mixing. Don't worry about it.

im using now castrol edge 5w-40 full synt.
my old car didnt like full synt. oil
i will put some motul 6100 10w-40 its not full synt.
its about Technosynthese, i dont know what it means
will it be problem at all ?
i have economical problems about this dates, no money to service and replace filters.
note: i replaced my oil about 9months ago with castrol edge 5w-40 but it decreases a bit much

My 2007 honda Fit has used oil since day 1. I always did my oci with a good synthetic and topped off with the cheapest conventional with api cert i could find.
I have a lead foot too which probably contributes to the burn, my helper drives it and the usage seems to go down. whats your driving style?

The 6100 is probably the same as what we call a full synthetic in the U.S. since in the States "full synthetic" is considered an advertising term only, of which the NAD allows group III catalytically de-waxed Hydroprocessed from crude oil Hi-VI basestocks.
Though, I think I'd agree that Shells' new GTL stocks as technically correct term synthetic - which appears they employ in their "conventional" to some good degree.

Thanks everyone. My car has 160,000 miles and still runs pretty good. I change oil every 4,000 miles because I do 90% city driving.
With a 4000 mile OCI, topping off with QS at 3000 mi. shouldn't hurt anything.
I'm picky about top offs early in an oil change and stay with the original oil.
When I get closer to the date of the next change, almost any leftover oil is a candidate.

It'll be fine. Oils are formulated to be able to mix with other oils if need be.
