Current fill MaxLife blend in the truck.
Top offs will total 2-3 qts before next oil change.

Would you use Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Chevron blue bottle or MC blend?

Oh wait. Forgot I hear Pennzoil High Mileage in the copper bottle too.
Add packs ok to mix?
 
I'd add the Max Life (or other Valvoline/Napa oils). All the other oil choices you listed are non-sodium oils. I prefer not to mix add packs that are that different.

You can mix any SN oils and your vehicle will not self-destruct. There's just no guarantee that the ratings of each one will be maintained with the mixture.
 
I mix conventionals and synblends, but not the full synthetics or the high mileage. It's all compatable with each other. But it may lessen the length of oil life.
 
I tend to top off with whatever I have laying around, does that make me a bad person?

Let's say I buy a five quart jug of Mobil 1 and my car takes five quarts. I'm not going to go out and buy the $8 dollar individual quarts of Mobil 1 just so I can top off between a 6,000 mile oil change interval. If there's a quart of NAPA whatever...or Castrol whatever...etc, etc,etc...I'll throw that in there if it's the correct weight. I know ideally it'd be "best" to top off with the exact thing the original fill is, but what harm am I doing adding a half a quart of whatever at say 4,000 miles into an oil change interval? I mean what exactly IS that oil at that point once it's been thoroughly mixed with carbon, fuel, dirt, and byproducts of combustion? It's not the same stuff that poured out of that five quart pretty Mobil 1 jug anyway. And it sure beats letting the thing run low on oil like millions of cars on the road are doing every day.
 
Just use Maxlife.
Why can't you see that?
If for some reason you can't do that,get some Napa which is very close being the same oil and its on sale.

Top off with whatever you have first.

This consumption is considered normal. Same as tens of thousands that own these trucks.
Has been the same for 15 years.
 
I never worry too much about topping off. I use what's on hand if it's even close to the weight I need. I have vehicles that normally require different weight oils, 1) 0W20 2) 5W20 3) 5W30. So I'm close no matter what. Been lucky so far not needing to top off since I got rid of my 14 year old Jeep 4.0... still have a little 10W30 left over from that.
 
If you can't top off with the same oil that's in it, you can come close by using something from the same blender.
For example, on a fill of Maxlife, any Valvoline PCMO would be a close choice as would NAPA or RP PCMO.
There is a case for using monogrades for top-offs, since they have no VIIs that might cause unintended interactions with those in the oil in the sump.
None of these are practical in NYS in winter unless you can find some HD 10.

I do use an HD 30 as top-off oil when I don't have a handy quart of the original sump fill to put in, but only in the warmer months.
Buck twenty nine a quart from RK and API SN.
 
Top off with whatever is laying around. Then pick an oil and just buy that so you dont have this dillema ever again.
 
I top off 15w40 with straight 40. The reasoning (such as it is) is that this will compensate for any shear (such as it is) during the life of the fill.

BUT if I didn't already have the straight 40 I might not bother getting any specially.

What is the OCI on the truck? Mine uses 1 qt every 1500 miles or so. I change at 6 months, which ends up being about 4500 miles.

Pretty much the same here. Will just use the Pennzoil High Mileage since I have so much.

and maybe I MISIDENTIFIED the Quaker State Ultimate Durability. it is QS Defy. Is that the same???
It says it is for high mileage.
