Top Tier Gas a scam?

Shell says something different. Same proprietary additive at different treat rates. Taken from their V-Power Nitro+ FAQ:

I think you are confusing the marketing of the grade of fuel with the additive used. I personally know of a Chevron in Reno that was shut down and their franchise pulled when a QC spot check showed that they were not selling Chevron fuel(tracers in the additive). The majors take the use of their additive chemistry very seriously.

Your quote said exactly what I said.

V-power is their proprietary additive in use for their premium gasoline. That’s what I’ve said all along. So, thank you for that.

But it also says nothing about treat rate. A treat rate is X amount of additive to Y amount of fuel. You’re confusing concentration of detergents vs federal standards and treat rates.

Shells exact statement is that their 87 and 89 offerings may contain v-power or equivalent. All of it is top tier approved. Which, aligns with my previous statements. And, should answer your previous question.

And, to the later point - there’s a lot more than additive at stake. There’s credit card transaction fees. Use of branded credit cards. Branding fees. Franchise fees. Etc.

Cheating is a very bad thing all around. It’s not just additive technology. Using a tracer is just an easy way to spot check. A lot easier than reconciliations via receipts.

I’m not confusing anything. If I’m doing a bad job presenting this, that’s on me I guess.

I tought is scam, until recently when I did a quick on field research and found out that the gas stations in my area, that have Top Tier sticker on their pumps, don't have the 10% ethanol sticker.
This is a good enough reason for me to pump only at those stations. :)

V-Power is not an additive. Every detergent package must be registered with the EPA. Here's the current list. V-Power is not on that list. Shell is not on that list. You will find Invigorate under BASF and Techron under Chevron Products Company.

V-Power is Shells' premium gasoline. Somewhere on that list is Shell's proprietary additive package(s).

Most manufacturers are recommending TT fuel now and I don’t think that is due to a big scam. And let’s say it is, if the cost is the same as non TT to you in the end who cares?

BP may not be paying for the license but does that translate to any saving for you? Or it is just more profit margin for BP?

Now, I already pointed this out…

Where’s Shell’s refinery in the U.S.?

(There isn’t one.)

V Power is an additive. That Shell adds to gasoline. That is a branded premium fuel.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at. However, your posts are entirely frustrating and misleading. And, please, once more point out where any fraud was inferred. Because that is a very serious claim.

Fwiw, I found his posts to be a wealth of information and knowledge on the topic of TT gas blending and gas generally. Well worth taking the time to read imo. I learned a lot from the linked thread.
I concur. There's been a wealth of information shared across this thread, ripping back the curtains on how fuel blending, distribution, additives, and so much more is happening behind the scenes.

The EPA link shared by @edhackett had me perusing EPA's website for over an hour this morning. 😒
