There have been a few developments in which areas produce the most oil. New Mexico is firmly in position number two. Here are the latest numbers from the EIA. Numbers are in million bbls per day of crude oil.

Texas 5.8
New Mexico 2.3
Federal Offshore in the Gulf 2.0
North Dakota 1.2
Colorado 0.5
Oklahoma 0.4
Alaska 0.4

California used to pump oil

NM has mucho NG

AK seems to be ramping up again, if the number of roughnecks I saw called up is any indication.

How does Canader compare?

Surprised that ND produces that much.
TX still leads by a significant margin.

CA hasn't been granting water permits for the workover wells. Can't pump the highly viscous crude without them so production has dropped off the last several years.

There is a "workaround" out there utilizing a geothermal type power plant. The plant uses the oil fields steam to create electricity. They're currently attempting to utilize this to receive justification for the water permits in the Central Valley oil fields.
