Top loading washer.....

Get a whirlpool top loader or the top of the line Kenmore which is a rebadged Whirlpool. Whatever you get, DO NOT get a new Maytag. They are junk trading heavily on a long gone reputation. Our current washer is a Whirlpool Duet front loader. I like it, It is 4yr old and trouble free.

These pieces of junk don't use enough water to wash your hands in, forgot a sock? Forget it, the doors locked.

Oddly enough, I have owned 2 front loaders so far in my life, first one was a Maytag Neptune, the most recent is an LG.

Both of them allow you to interrupt the washing cycle in order to add additional clothes, and both had the ability to increase the water level, with the push of a single button.

I grew up using top loaders, and my experiences with front loaders is that they do a much better job of cleaning clothes, while using considerably less water and detergent, which saves me money on every wash. The sole tradeoff is longer cycle times, which I'm fine with, since I only wash clothes once a week.

My wife, who had only ever used top loaders before we bought our first house together, was extremely skeptical with me when I was very adamant that we were buying a quality front loader, and not a top loader. Once she used it for the first time, she was sold.

BC.

That's what i was wondering. IME, front loaders use less water and wash better.

The new top loaders are just efficient as the front loaders.

Problem with front loaders is they put way to much load on their bearings. We've had 2 now, currently have a HE top load Maytag.

Take this recommendation and have years of worry free use. Not to mention the plastic junk everyone else makes.

I would, but it burnt itself out.....

I must be lucky. I bought the loss leader frigidaire front loader for $390-$50 energy rebate 5 years ago. Mainly for compact size as nothing else would fit up stair case but $1100+ Bosch. No problems with a family of 3 kids + 2 adults.

I find my clothes last longer, smell less soapy, use far less soap and drying time in minimal compared to the top loader.

Compared to my top-loader, my mother's front-loader does a better job with half the water and one-eighth the detergent! (Seriously: a full load uses about a tablespoon.)

Have you ever actually USED one, or just speaking from ignorance? There is a reason that commercial washers are front-load!

Another Speed Queen recommendation here. Personally I thought this brand hasn't been around since Philco or Quazar.. LOL, but the washer for our Nomex at work bought the farm (plastic transmission shredded), and the local appliance shop sold us a new Speed Queen. It's simple and was claimed to be the most heavy-duty model you could get from the appliance shop. Simple controls on it too.

FWIW, We've had an LG Tromm front loader at home for years. We prefer front loaders because we're on a septic system, so the less waste-water, the better. This particular washer doesn't do as good a job as a top loader. Like said, over loading it will result in clothes not even getting wet.
