I like Stevie Ray Vaughn. I personally think he's the best; dude couldn't even read music. I've never seen anyone who could whale on a guitar like that. Love listening to his songs, especially crossfire.

I would definitely put Eddie Van Halen on the list, if not the top of the list, if looking at rock guitarists. He introduced an entire new style of playing.

What I would like to see is someone like Eddie Van Halen play some songs from Clapton or King and the same goes for them. Not necessarily to see who is better, but more to see how they would add their own personal flair to someone else's song.

SRV, imo, was pretty limited in his tone and style of playing...might be a bit overrated, too...jMho.

You've obviously not listened to all his music then. Listen to Crossfire, then Riviera Paradise. There's no limitation there IMO!

Sorry, couldn't help it. Agreed on Bon Jovi. How he made it beyond the '80's is a complete mystery to me. My neighbors actually drove 10 hours to see a Bon Jovi concert this summer. They are nice people, so I managed to suppress a snicker. As for the Tragically Hip, they have brought some wonderful material and some rather forgettable material over the last 20 years. The album, "Fully, Completely" from about 15 years ago was terrific, IMO, but they haven't been all that great since. Overall they are legit though...

I see. When I lived in Vancouver, I was told repeatedly how great they were. What I heard wasn't that great, must have been recent stuff.

My little sister's friends used to torment her by putting Bon Jovi posters in her locker at school.

"OMG, I didn't see Eddy Van Halen even mentioned on this entire first page of this post, I think I'm going to be sick."

TIMES 2....whether or not you actually like VH's music, you can't deny his talent and innovation.....anyone who leaves him off a list like this simply has a bias against his sometimes childish antics vis-a-vis his various bandmates....that I agree is stupid!

Nils Lofgren
Les Paul
Angus Young, many years ago
Jeff Beck
David Gilmour (but it ain't Floyd w/o Waters)
Billy Gibbons, seriously underrated
Duane Allman, fer sure
the guy from Cheap Trick is pretty ---- good
Buck Dharma of BOC
Slash

SRV was superb.
He played very complicated pieces and licks on very heavy strings [sure - there was a lot standard I-IV-V also].

Comparing SRV to other fine guitarists is like Gene Kelly compared to Fred Astair. Gene had style AND power.
