Tool storage

Can't stand blow molded cases for things like cordless power tools.

OTOH for specialty tools like BJ press cups, drum puller and front wheel drive bearing pullers it's difficult to find a better solution.

Sometimes for certain socket sets or Torx sockets etc I'll cut the lid off and put it in a drawer. At that point it's not much different than foam.

I'm on the fence about the various torx/triple-square/specialty hex sets that I have. I only use them a few times a year (if that) for Euro cars. They are small enough that I don't mind keep them in blow-molded cases.

OTOH, I am weird about my torque wrenches. I like to keep them in blow-molded cases, even though they reside in my top-drawer and are used daily.

For small, infrequently used items that have a chance of being transported somewhere, I have yet to find a better solution.
Everything I have is shadowed. If I need tools somewhere I can't take my box I'll pack a tool bag.

The plastic cases get tossed immediately.

Edit: except the cases that my cal tools cane in. I use them for shipping.

I used to be between a 2 and 3. Then last winter I didn’t take on any projects and just focused on organizing my tools and supply’s. Now I’m a 4 on most things(yes foam and all) and a 3 on some.

Since becoming OCD level organized my production and enjoyment has gone up considerably. Highly recommend it.

Since my top drawer is deep and large, I have found that keeping it well-organized opens up space to store magnetic trays inside. During large jobs, I am able to store some fasteners and parts inside the drawer….which in turn, helps with the clutter.
