I changed the ATF in my V6 Honda Accord and when I refilled I used a little too much. It shows on the dipstick a little over 1/8 inch too high. I didnt think this was a problem, but I read in my Hanyes manual that too much ATF can damage the transmission. Its been about 20K miles since I changed so was going to change again in about 10K anyway. Should I drain this off or just let it go? I used the Honda brand ATF.

Leave it. A dipstick is a rough gauge. 1/8 inch here or there wont matter much.

I drive a 2002 Ford Taurus and it came overfilled 1 inch up the dipstick. It currently has 140,000 miles on it and on its 2nd transmission flush. I have kept it overfilled 1 inch and haven't had any troubles, it doesn't burn or drip, the underside of the car is spotless.

I expect your accord not to be as robust. Don't overfill it an inch. But I think any car should be able to withstand 1/8" without any difficulty.

It probally doesn't hurt anything, but the way I am I would pump out a little with a hand pump for my own peace of mind.

Leave it, the dipsticks must have a "moron factor" as they cannot expect people to be that exacting. Without my reading glasses I would not notice the 1/8" of an inch.

1/8th" isn't much. but ... When the fluid gets very hot and expands to it's maximum volume is when borderline overfilling will show. Make sure the fluid is really up to temp when measuring.

My 1998 Land Cruiser showed rough shifts with only about a 1/4" over on the dip when the fluid was really heated. (Low gear crawling up mining roads in mid-summer).Draining a pint of fluid fixed the problem completely.

My opinion - Fix it before next summer or install a external filter, cooler or some other BITOG inspired project that will drain a quart or two. A Magnafine will soak up the extra very nicely.

ATF expands and contracts with heat changes. So does the internal volume of the trans, to a degree.
If you were high cold, I'd suck a little out.
