Today I got a remote starter installed.

Remotely starting a car and letting it idle away so you can avoid a minute or two of chill is very understandable but doesn't it sound a little "prima-donnaish" to you?

I'm happy to have a good circulation system (talk to me in a few years). It helps me be a little more ecological.

I'll always want to hear any engine start. Coolant and oil heaters and battery chargers are the way to go. Kira

Thank you,

I never thought of it being "prima-donnish" in the least. I don't think I'm better than anyone else or have an inflated ego and I don't think I'm a lady.

Sounds like a very nice system. I'm about two hours from Erie so I'd consider going there if I get one installed. Sounds much better than the Honda oem version which is very expensive, short range, and turns the car off when you open the drivers side door. You probably know all that but I'm sure many on here do not.

Assuming this includes parts and labor, it is very good price. But the question is, do you always remember "to arm" it before leaving the vehicle? I presume it will take a while before you will get in to the habit of doing that every time you get out of the vehicle.

My wife really wants a remote start on the MDX but I'm so paranoid about electrical gremlins popping up. I've known two cars that have directly had issues over time and others I've heard about anecdotally. Am I worrying about nothing?

That's what I need for my Challenger. On a cold day, the windows can get stuck if they have heavy frost on them or ice (frameless windows roll down a little when you pull door handle to seal against the weatherstripping). Camaros and Mustangs do the same thing. Would be nice to be able to blast some heat on them to unstick them on a cold morning.

The Honda system is very expensive ($900 installed) and has no range or flexibility. The dealer sold me an Audiovox Prestige ($275 installed.) In case of remote starts, aftermarket is generally a much better value.

No. It really isn't.

Check with your insurer. When i had my Magnum, I was told (and had to sign a form indicating I was told) that installing an aftermarket remote starter that by passes the factory anti-theft engine immobilizer would VOID my comprehensive insurance!

I've had 6 remote starters on 6 different vehicles in the past 13 years.
I fully disclosed this to my agent and have never been asked to sign such a waiver.

Were any of those vehicles equipped with an ECM-based engine immobilizer? Were any of them FACTORY remote starters?

My car is about 60' from my desk at work and is parked outside at home, so I'm leaning toward getting one installed soon.

Have one on my truck and that is exactly my situation and why I use it. I have a black truck and boy does it get warm out in the sun. It's great starting the truck/AC before I leave the office only to step inside a nice frosty interior.
