Pardon the Shakespeare reference, but that is my question. I have discovered that my 06 SS does have an oil consumption issue that, according to what I can find online is due in whole, or in part, to the Active Fuel Management System. It doesn't bother me it's about a quart every 2000 miles; which, from what I've seen on this site and the "good Ol' Boy" network here in Missouri is not a major issue. According to outside sources I'm told that if I stick with one type (brand) of oil then it will help. I do not know enough about this subject to tell if this is a credible statement, or if this is a baseless claim, so I figured I would tap into the resources of this site to test it. Will sticking with one brand/type of oil help consumption? Again, I appreciate the help.

Yes, and no. Sometimes an engine will burn or 'consume' more oil once you switch oils, just because the base oil/add pack may be different than what the engine has been used to. Then eventually, if you keep using the 'new' oil, the consumption will return to normal, whereabouts. It is important to note that because of viscosity differences even between 2 different oils of the same grade, one may get consumed more so than the other.

How many miles are on your motor? While oil and grade are you currently using? Just curious. Regardless of your mileage, a high-mileage oil might help with your consumption somewhat, as well as having more anti-wear additives and good cleaning ability.

I'm currently using Mobil 1 Extended Performance with a RP 10-44 filter. The motor has 75,789 miles. This is the first round with this oil. In the case of High Mileage oil what would be the recommendation there? Thanks.

If it's your first round with it, I wouldn't rush to switch brands or lines just yet.
