In Germany for the most part only the cars for export had hardened seat even in 86, very few had them for the domestic market, only the seldom G Cat equipped models had them and they were hard to find non leaded fuel for.

Sure, but were German cars using cast iron heads back then, or did they already go to Aluminum heads with valve seats pressed in?

Most of the 1970s GM cars had cast iron heads, so the valve seats would have to be heat treated to accept unleaded gas.

Pressed in valve seats are usually tough enough for unleaded gas.
