Oil change coming up, I have QS Defy on there now and it really does run good but the VOA I saw on here was no that impressive. Anyone else using this oil? What about Castrol High Mileage?? Thanks

If you don't have any on hand and e not impressed with th VOA, then move to something else. Not to mention the rebate debacle that is currently going down.

You gotta realize too....it's not all in the VOA......there's "hidden" stuff that the VOAs can't "see" per se

And some that, the lab don't test for "yet" etc.....etc.....

If the car runs great? I'd stick with it......esp. if the car isn't under warranty.....

That and the Zinc may not be that big of a "help" if you don't have flat tappet cams.....like my 88 has roller cams......the Defy "could" be a good candidate, but even BETTER if it had flat tappet.....or so that's that I've heard :P But yea.....it's still great oil......the oil base stock plays a little role too.

Get a UOA and see what it looks like.

My favorite would be Valvoline Maxlife or Maxlife NextGen (same thing really, except that NextGen is >50% based on re-refined recycled oil). It's a synthetic blend oil, even though not advertized as such, with a good additive pack. The UOAs are few buy they look decent. It doesn't cost much to try since you can buy 5quarts of ML NextGen version with a quality Purolator filter for $25 at AAP, then apply for $20 mail-in rebate this month.

I assume that Pennzoil Yellow bottle or Pennzoil HM oil are also very good based on VOA, but not much UOA on this web site for them.

+1 just because a VOA doesnt show it to be a superstar like we all hoped, it all depends on how your engine likes it. I can attest that my car has never felt smoother or quieter then it has using Defy. I used PYB/PP/M1 you name it and DEFY has been the best for my engine. I plan on sending out for a UOA but my car loves it.

There are plenty of oils with mediocre/boring VOAs that work very well when put into service. Here's what I run...looks lousy, right?

I have it in my Acura and like it, picked up more yesterday at Wally world since they had the 4qt jug plus a purolator filter on sale for $17.50!!! Can't beat that, and No MIR!!

I have one jug and I will run it, but I won't buy anymore unless they make good on the rebate I sent in for a "free" jug. I do like the specs, the VOA mentioned was disappointing but Blackstone is notorious for odd readings so I'd still like to see some UOA's on it.

I'm using it in my lawn mower as well. I used PYB SAE 30 in it last summer, but I only got it the beginning of august, so I didn't have a chance to run that oil real long, but it did consume some of it. No consumption with Defy 5w30 in it so far, but I've only used it 4 or 5 times at about an hour a shot so far. I've gotta change the oil in my wifes explorer in a couple weeks and I'm thinking of trying Defy in that as well

Is Defy less $$$ than Castorl HM? If so just stick with Defy both are high quality and both will perform almost the same in most applications.

I switched to QS Defy from having previously used Maxlife for several years....I LOVE the QS, will not switch back.

Truck engine is a lot smoother and quieter.

What do you guys mean by an oil that's not rated, not rated how? And why is that a bad thing?

Isn't QS oils in general, good oils?

Either not rated by the API and ILSAC or using superseded or obsolete specifications. It's not a bad thing if the product is from SOPUS, XOM, BP, RP, RL, Ashland, or any of the other fine big oil companies or quality boutique outlets and you're using it in a suitable application. It is a bad thing if it's something that's on the PQIA alert list.

In any case, QS is quality oil, whether it's their conventional, HM/Defy, or synthetic. I've used a lot of their conventional over the years with no complaints. The only reason I have a boatload of PYB (aside from it being a quality oil, too) is that it was on special when I got the G and my QS stash had dwindled to one jug.

Here's my tongue in cheek theory about Defy. It's a SOPUS experiment using BITOG members as the test subjects. It has the same UPC as QSHM and seems to be replacing it, at least in Canada. Up here, it even has the same red bottle, with a different label. So, they're changing the label and tweaking the formula (or perhaps even leaving it as is, who really knows), and seeing how much of a buzz we create.

In any event, I'm likely to try it, assuming I can find it at an appropriate price. I'm sure the old F-150 will like it.

I did receive my Defy rebate Saturday. Just wanted to post that as I had previously posted some doubts...need to be a little more patient next time.
