I changed the oil in my 2001 Grand am with 2.4 Quad on Nov. 6th according to my records. I used Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 and Purolator P1 filter. Just the other day, March 4, The oil life service kicked on the change oil notification on the dash. I only have 2,000 miles on this oil! According to the manual the ols can come on between 3,000 mi. and 12,500 mi. Could come on early if need be. The GM ols tracks engine rpm and temp.

So, do I heed the ols or wait until my planned date to change the oil in May? I think I would change it if I was using dino, but I'm using a good synthetic.

edit: Oh, and yes, I did reset the ols in Nov. when I last changed the oil.

The Quaker State Ultimate Durability/P1 combo is an easy 5k+/6month oci anytime, many including myself have gone longer with it.

At minimum, I'd stick with the May date.

same thing with my caliber- 'change oil sign' flashed on but i have about 1500 mi on my oil-been in 11 months all highway steady driving and oil looks clean.

i reset oil light, and will leave it in until June or July.

Don't throw away good oil! you can go another year with your oil in that car!!!

Regarding the Caliber: the OLM in the Chrysler is a simple counter, the GM version is much more sophisticated and reliable.

They really are not comparable.
